Yes sir, it does add to it! Pretty much anyone I hunt with anymore are running this family of mutts. They are super good people and I feel blessed that they are friends and would rather hunt this junk than other better dogs.

Built two new kennel spaces today in the last two bays on my dog loafing sheds. Had enough chainlink panels for one side but went and bought 4 welded wire 5x6 panels and 2 welded wire 5x6 gates and it was almost 1000 bucks  but made room for the new walker pup I got 3 weeks ago. And an extra space for the house mutts to hang out while we are working. Going to drop the kids German short hair off at the trainers right down the road from us to get a better handle on him while I start getting the hounds in shape for this years New Mexico bear trip. You boys getting anything caught in this wonderful heat? The mountains north of town got snow Tuesday above 9000ft and it had me very ready for winter!

We’ve been been catching a couple hogs and cramps every trip. It’s a shame that putting tracking collars on dogs will cause you to be in an all out sweat. This last week it didn’t get above 95-96 and it felt like AC. I’m ready for the cooler weather too.

It’s great your at least getting the dogs out, mine haven’t chased anything since bear season ended. It’s very hot and very smoky here but I can’t wait anymore, gotta get them in shape for chasen some southern bears. No amount of roading gets them as hard as they are after a month of chasing bears but it helps. I ordered a pallet of dog food last week and it should arrive this week, country vet active 24/20 . I’ve fed their lower grade stuff a lot a few years back and dogs did well. I don’t like the grain fillers but dog food prices are out of control. I’ve been feeding k9 rage for 2 years now and besides a bit of inconsistency from bag to bag my dogs have never looked so good after a lion/bear season. I’m just tired of the 6 hour round trip to go get it.

Yeah convenience plays a role in what you feed. I feed Showtime 24/20 and it’s decent. I never feed over 24% protein here. It’s just too hot for that much protein.

We made hunt day before yesterday and caught a little boar hog about 150ish. He was in a sure enough bad spot so I was glad he wasn’t a bad dude. We caught him and crawled in under the embankment and drug him out. Then today we made a little drive to hunt with some buddies a couple hours down the road from us. We caught 2 more boars and a shoat. Gonna give the dogs a few days to recoup. No major injuries but a little beat up. My nephew has a brand new litter on the ground out of his 2 lead dogs. I’m really excited about those and man they’re purdy.

Finally got my poor potlickers out of the kennel last night, started roading them and the sky cut loose a monsoon. Only got 3 miles on them and they weren’t enjoying the downpour so I loaded them up and headed for the house.

I’ve been stooopid busy this summer. But things are looking up! I was able to get all of my vacation requests approved for the deer hunts and elk hunts my wife and I were drawn for this year. The dogs have been as cooped up and miserable as I’ve been. Luckily I will have the next 2 weeks off starting Monday. I’m gonna try to go out for a couple days if I can get my projects done in time.

Welcome back Rowdy! I thought I was seeing a ghost for second there. Glad you got to come up for air. Sounds like you’re still going to be busy only now it’s more of what you WANT to do. Hope it goes according to plan.

I thought he abandoned us for good law  glad to hear from you here rowdy! I’ve tried to catch the podcast from time to time but my memory is awful! I’m in the same boat, just stupid busy but work screeched to a halt for a few weeks so I’m going to get the dogs out as much as possible but with archery season starting today it’s tough to go anywhere without offending hunters.

Thanks guys! I worked every day of Aug. But the department has finally pulled their head out of their butt and implemented a 21 day rule which allows us 48 hours off at home, paid. So the 22,23rd I was able to go home. Other than that I didn’t get to do anything fun or important at home. The kids might have forgot who I was for a few weeks… lol

I will definitely be busy, Law! I have a motor swap on a truck to finish, then an axle swap on it. After that I’ll do an axle swap on my truck. Then if I have time after that I’ll try to start painting my house. If i have time after that, I’ll try to hunt before the deer hunters ruin everything…

Man, I’m tired listening to that! I think I’d rather have the motor fall on my foot than have to paint!

Lawdawg, the temps here in Oklahoma dipped into the high 50’s at night. Words can’t describe how refreshing it feels. My friend in Hondo tells me there are wells drying up due to the extended drought they’ve been under for the last few years. I know last summer was an absolute killer down there.

Hollowpoint it’s been bad the last several years. 2011 was super bad and we haven’t really recovered since. This summer was hot but by no means what it has been. We got dry but not to the point that all the stock ponds were having to be fenced to keep cattle from bogging up. We actually made some hay this year. That was a huge relief for our cattlemen and horse people. There are a lot of dead cedars trees and oak trees. Between the droughts and the ice we’ve had here during the winter, they just couldn’t take it. I haven’t heard of any local wells drying up, but your buddy in Hondo is about 4 hours south of here. I
look for the local wells to start having issues. We are over the Edwards Aquifer I think it is. They are tapped into it now and pumping water to San Antonio. I guess we’ll see.

Hiked 3 1/2 miles into a blm “wilderness “ area today. Took my bow along in my pack just in case I stumbled into an elk. Never heard a peep but I did find 2 lion scrapes. We got quite a bit of snow in the high country in the mountain range just east of my house. It’s a very welcome site to see and I’m very much looking forward to colder weather! I’ve been roading the dogs as much as possible to get ready for our southern bear hunting trip next month, they sure are happy to be getting out!

I bet they are. SNOW, being a Texas boy, I’m not the biggest fan of the snow. I like the cooler temperatures though. Our humidity is high here so the hot feels hotter and the cold feels colder. We are back up to triple digits here again.
