I'm satisfied when I here the race end it's over. It's not about seeing game dead or in the tree here. It's did you have enough dog power to stay in the race and where in the pack were they running. I've turned out in the summer many times just after dark and still be running mr fox or coyote when the sun comes up the next morning.

I came away with a whole new respect for the toughness of a running dog!

Well, he sniveln about some tag alder and snow, he needs to try hunting up the canyon with the banjos and try pulling bignblue off of them hillbillys........ Thats tuff cat hunting!!!!!!

i hunt running dogs on cat in south GA, with what i see i wonder if a tree dog could stick on the front end, ive see some races last 3 hrs in a bad briar patch with the cat crawling around in front lots of times, i hunt strickly at night, a lot of the cat we run here wont climb, some do those that's been messed with a lot, that's when u need a tree dog, woods are a lot different here very thick, lots of briars, and ty ty bays, i have never hunted with a tree dog on cats, i wonder what would take place here, i been cat, and fox hunting here in south Ga for a long time , had lots of dogs, ran and caught a lot of cat i go to run not follow, and with some of these races there fast expecially with 10 running it,

went last night and could have used a tree dog , I can see the difference between tree dogs and running dogs , but my thing is I go not to kill anything, only the dogs can kill what they run, but I try to get them off the grey fox before they do, cat being a different story ! everything I own is a registered walker running hound I have them that can strike in the box, or in front the truck, I hunt 3 nights a week sometimes 4, with this being the only hunting I do, I have line bred these dogs for a very long time, these dogs are not what they competition hunt with I breed for nose, brains, mouths, and fox sense , most running dogs this day and time are bred for the pens, I don't want any of that, most of them cant run a hot bisquit, but its what a man likes,

Any dog can catch a bobcat or most any dog can catch a few. Bobcat are not hard to catch but yet a lot of hunters don't catch many. I have seen really good bobcat dogs that were tree dogs especially years ago when the treeing walkers still had a lot of running dog in them. I even seen a really good bluetick bobcat dog once,[ he was mostly white with a few ticks] but a papered dog. When we talk cat dogs for me that means bobcat not lion, some hunters put them together I don't. There are good dogs in all breeds and even in each breed they have different traits. A pack will bring these traits together. Each dog should be able to catch its own bobcat but can out preform others at striking, treeing, on the jump and most important moving a cold track, which is why I lean toward the running dogs. I think Flip hit it on the head [closed mined ]. Go hunt with different bobcat hunters that are truly bobcat that don't run off game[lion,bear,coon ect] leave your dogs at home. A good bobcat dog can be any breed but traits come with most breeds. For me the running dog brings good conformation, ability to move a cold track,toughness and last, speed on a jump. The down fall is lack of treeing ability. I have the time to hunt harder than most people I hunt 4 to 7 days a week. The last 2 weeks of the season my dogs had 2 days off, I hunted 10 to 16 hours a day. The same dogs every day. I have tried a lot of treeing dogs, I would like to see some that holds up to that and be able to catch 4 or 5 bobcats in a day. A lot of people don,t like running bred dogs and know everything about them, talking with them most have never hunted with any or many of them[ closed minded]. Each to there own ,hunt what works for you. The better and harder hunter you are the better and hard hunting dog you will need. Dewey

One thing I forgot, IT is not speed or how fast a dog is that catches bobcats IT IS everything that a dog has to make him fast on a track that catches bobcat. A fast wide running, over running dog can make a long bobcat race. It takes a dog to run a track tight cold or hot to tree bobcats. I hate a dog that goes wide over running, off track type dog,a dog that barks off track be it cold or hot track. Idealistically a dog should only bark when it has a clean track he is moving and never twice in the same spot. Dewey

You guys seen them catch free cast in the woods???? Or being used as trap dogs??? Just curious.
