This is really good stuff! I enjoy going through those old Full Cry articles and old hound photographs. Thanks for posting the documentation that you have as well, guys. To be honest, I'm not able to look at most of these pics and see a definitive "french" connection. But my eyes aren't as accustomed to the subtle nuances of the imported influence. I can certainly see where you're basing your theory, however, and can respect that. I'm not quite ready to agree totally, but you at least now have my attention.
I did come up with one little theory of my own from the article that Steve posted from Bill to FC in '44. That third paragraph where he very plainly mentions his buddy the mule man being less afraid of an Army pack mule than Bill's "man eating dogs" sure got my attention. Over the years, some Sugar Creek and many Cameron hounds have gotten the reputation as ranging anywhere from a "little ill" to downright mean. Could it be that this overtly aggressive trait came into the Sugar Creek line through Ann by PantherG via Bill Green's hounds? I mean, it is there in black and white, in words written by Bill Green himself that his hounds were "man eating". Or are we to assume he didn't mean what we think he did?

My understanding of the "letter to home" article in relation to the "man eating dogs" is that those dogs weren't hounds.. they were "half wolf".. Bill was buying dogs for various military purposes including defense and attack dogs. I don't believe these dogs were hounds or connected to Bill's stock.

Thanks for clearing that up. I guess it really is easy to read something and jump to conclusions.

I'd heard that "half wolf" story and just assumed that he meant the same thing I do when I say a dog is "half alligator". We don't have wolves down here yet, thank God, but we do have plenty of 'gators.

I can't read it either, maybe try reposting it using "tinypic" or something like that that lets you click on and select the pics once they are posted....

For your Viewing Pleasure while John is work on the other things..
As I first Read this I was Thinking (Don't know Why ) that Bill was Running Fox Hounds but as I re-read it I realized that He was Commenting on this Fellows pervious Artical on Pack Foxhounds use on Big Game..
One other note is that Where I have read that Bill only took 4 Hounds to South America.. He writes that He took 6 Hounds .. So His trip to S.A. to hunt Jags was Prior to this Letter so maybe 1934-35..
But the BIG thing is This is just a "YOUNG KID" writing this with Alot of Knowledge
of What a Big Game Hound should be and Hunt !!!
