Come on spring!!!! I'm ready for the bears to come out and play!!!! Have fun the rest of the year and everyone be safe..

You didn't break any laws Pat if the catch was accidental, and done from a cast or broke from a lion or bobcat trail. Generally, the fish and game tries to show intent which is the straw that breaks the camel's back. If, however, you go back (knowing what you know) and do it again then they'd hammer you for sure..........

I'll agree that a guy should not be posting stories or photographs of catching an animal out of season. However, I'll also say that it is 100 percent legal to run dogs on lions in the summer and or accidentally find a bear den in the winter. And given a ticket for a legal activity they'd find themselves having to prove I was breaking the law in court--end of story.
I spoke to the head of law enforcement on the phone, and told him if I were gonna be held accountable for an accidental catch that I'd either sell my hounds or shoot them and get the HELL out of this chicken shit sport. He told me it was legal to do what I was doing, and to keep my hounds and to stay in the sport. We were talking about casting dogs for lions in the summer months. I will say, however, that a guy better be telling the truth on his motives and be able to show dogs that will listen to his commands. And I can do that; I'll also say that I don't run in San Juan where there are lots of bears and that I always get out and check for tracks when bear is closed. If there is any doubt I call them back.
I will say that if too many people do much running in the summer and cause a problem catching bears in a closed season and the fish and game believes that's all we're doing they will close that season--no doubt in my mind!

I agree 100% with u Dennis. You make some very good points. What it comes down to is we all need to try and be carefull to protect our sport, and try at all times to have each others backs.
