I guess from what you are saying Tri-Tronics come in very handy in the African bush. I will bet that a troop of baboons could be pretty rough on a pack of trail hounds as well as a wort hog and from what has been written about ancient times some of the plains game when cornered can put up a pretty good fight. Please keep posting pictures and stories from your African adventures as most of us on hear will never have the chance to see it and can only think of what it might be like.

I do not know of anyone using collers in Africa, it is very difficult to get that type of electronic equipment into most countries...
The dog handlers and the PH are beyond amazing when it comes to keeping track of the hounds. You put your top hounds on the track first and let them work it.When they have it lined out and the cat is moving that is when you begin to put other hounds into the chase, every hound has his place in the pack as to when he/she is put in...it is an amazing team effort...
There have been times I have kept up a steady trot for over an hr leading 2-3 hounds, you want to die but you know you can't stop....your listening to the communication between the PH and the tracker as to when the track is getting better and the hounds working it faster.
Once the cat is up then you start putting more hounds into the chase, until that time however you run and hold on to them .... All the hounds are not running the leopard at the same time.
On one hunt we had been on a big male and run him 4 times during the 7 days and still had not caught him, this day was different and we had found his track knowing it was real fresh..after about 2 hrs the front hounds opened and I heard Nico say they have jumped the leopard, turn Butch and Spring in, these were two real fast hounds and the plan was to put some preasure on the cat in hopes of getting him treed or bayed in a huge kopji they were on...all of a sudden a troop of baboons that were living in the kopji exploded and hounds went every direstions with baboons chasing them through the rocks and thick brush, I saw the cat go out the opposite side of where the dog and baboon battle was taking place .
That day we lost another chase and the cat had another day on us.
Baboons will and have killed leopard and they will kill the dogs if they can. That big cat had been hunted and was wise to the hounds, we did not get him but I am returning to give him another run this year with a client.
This is his track made in the mud where he came to drink at a dam,he's a Big cat estimated to be close to 200 lbs.... maybe more!!!
You have to carry water for the hounds, when you run a cat for any length of time the dogs have to drink, it's so dry and hot and these chases are hard on them...
This is a crossing that had to have poles cut and layed the entire width of the wash so we would not get the Land Cruiser stuck in the sand...
Thanks again

I have not, one reason is these hounds are just to valuable to risk having then killed by a woulded leopard or lion.
They did use alot of Rhodesian Ridgebacks in the good old days to hunt lion and I am sure if it were legal today they still would in some areas...

Brent- Awesome pics! That is the kind of hunt I dream about and may never get the chance to do. Just one question... Where are the GGS's? I mean you can't catch Leopards without them right?

Just kidding! Sweet pics, thanks for sharing.
