I have one mule thats 6-7 yrs and ive never put shoes on. I ride him in rough country all the time and he doesnt even chip. I rode and packed him for 7 days straight in AZ last year on a coues hunt, didnt sore him at all. Not un common to find a mule that can go with out shoes. But all that riding is at a walk or slow trot. I think if I was riding him harder workn cattle in rough country having to hurry a little more day after day, might have to put shoes on him.

Sure like not having shoes on one, they grip much better when its icy and snowy like this year

As long as I can get away with it he aint gonna get none. Ive got a 2 year old that aint gettn none either. My thoro/mule has to have them on the other hand

Like you said, not uncommon for a mule. But, it sure sounds like you got a keeper there! I'm not surprises at all on the Thoro Mule...Anything with thoroughbred has crap feet.

horse vs mule, tb mule vs ?mule, mustang vs qh, wet vs dry, mountain pasture vs meadows..... breeding and environment rings pretty true on most anvils
