That little cameron female of Tom and Jeff's is a nice lion dog and does well in the dirt. Gritty little shit too, she just wouldnt give that tom no space on the rock, kept getting closer and closer until wham, think the shocking and tracking collar saved her that day. Made a great video. I offered to buy the dog for $200.00 too but for some reason Tom and Jeff told me to go pound sand! Go figure!!

Have a few friends that have tried the Camerons and all said they made good dogs but werent quite up to par for the real cold dry ground trailing compared to some of the old lines of mixed bred muts.

I have a registered female with cameron breeding(half i think) she's just coming too and doing a fine job but she needs another year under her belt before i can give her an honest evaluation.

There was also a guy on this site that was selling a cameron bred dog that was a good dirt lion dog out of AZ. He posted a nice video of her trailing if I remember right

So that makes 6 - any more out there?

I raised the Cameron dogs for a lot of years and had alot of good dogs I bred back anfd forth with Jim Bundrick and I the years that we raised them I can name the dog I know made dirt dog Buckshot,Bo,Sagundo,Buck,Glory were the only one I know of There were probally more but few and far between They made good snow dogs and bear dog but if you want dirt dogs look elsewhere.

We have a five year old registered bluetick male.He is not Cameron bred but I am really happy with his performance on Dryground. He is my best dog right now. He will trail all day in the dirt. He is really good at locating and trees really hard. He was bred this spring to a daughter of samson. A female that Jeff Allen took bear hunting in CA., turned out to be one heck of a bear dog. Dean Lyman uses her for a rig dog now. If anyone is interested in a Bluetick Walker cross pup we have a couple left.

I think Larry Hindrex has some blue dogs not sure of the breeding in them other than his own. Also the Halcombs in Klondyke AZ have several blue dogs and some are that darker blue you see in the cameron bred blueticks.

I can tell you with conviction that none of Larry Hendrix nor Richard and Karen's dogs have any, ANY, Cameron in them. These are a tightly bred family of bare ground lion dogs and they are pretty well guarded.

So when Hal brought one of Hendrex's hounds up here to breed to his bitches a couple years back and offered me a pup it would have been the real deal Mike? I told Hal no thanks cause there is a limit to the hounds that I'm gonna raise and train in the coming years, and if I take on another pup it will from my own breeding...............It sounds like Hendrex has been there and about done it all, and I would have been proud to have a dog from his blood if I were just starting out rather than winding up.

I've know Del for over 20yrs And don't ever remember him calling them dry ground dogs. Just look were he lived and hunted maybe a snow dog.

Mike, i wasnt insisting they were Camerons just know they have some blue dogs thats all. And yes they are guarded and even if you get a pup from them the chance is high that it will be fixed before you get it. Hendrix will sell dogs but not on the budget most of us have. Man Ike, I turn down those Hindrex bred pups all the time. Warner Glenn and Jack childs tossed a few pups my way too but figured none of them would be good for my kennels. Just not cold nosed enough for my liking.

All I know is this makes for some really good reading!!!

Larry Hendrix is one of the best lion hunters living today. He is an educated man but got tired of polotics and all the crap that goes with working for the Govt. years back. He sort of fell out and has done nothing but live in camp and hunt lions for decades. He is a dog man second to none and very picky about his dogs. The strain he has is similar if not very closely related to all of the better dry ground old strains in Arizona, and New Mexico.

Ike it might have been a good deal to grab a pup out of that female. Our boy Benny G who is cooling his heels right now in winter-time weather in Africa is very tight with Larry and he knows that female. when he gets back if the lions don't eat him or the Tse Tse flies don't get him he can illuminate us on her. Almost all the hounds used for year round lion hunting in Arizona trace to lines quite similar to Larry's dogs.
