Ha! Ha! A lot of guys just like those making those Grand Canyon commericals think all of Arizona is saguaro cactus. Hell there ain't a saguaro cactus anywhere near the grand canyon. thats big poderosa pines, douglas fir and pinion juniper country.

And snow in the winter I mean deep! Hell Flagstaff that is just a nubbin off the canyon gets record snowfalls.

Whoa Easy big fella! I haven't been to the north rim and i do believe you there is alot of moisture there and that probably is were the photo was taken. Were ever it was taken it is a cool photo.
I have a sister that lives in Arizona and she has told me about flagstaff. She said it is quite a contrast to the southern part of the state. I just forgot about what she had said with all the desert, dry ground arizona lion hunt talk that has been on here lately.(i am just kidding around)

Isn't the Arizona Strip just west of the Kaibab pretty dry and arid? It always looked that way to me from the Muley Crazy videos.

Arizona Strip is usually pretty dry but does get some snow and MUD MUD MUD AT TIMES! Close to the Kaibab but it has a completely different type topography and vegitation. Those lions out there have to pack and umbrella and a lunch! Old Wiley Carroll told me he was hunting out in the Strip one time and he said them lions are pretty fleet of foot out there becasue they catch a lot of jack rabbits to survive.

That is a great picture of a nice trophy. The vehicle in the photo I believe is a 1911 Buick roadster and the clothing worn by the driver and his gopher on the far right also date the picture from that era from what I can tell I am by no means a historian but, believe that it is in fact Jim Owens himself. The highest point on the north rim in Arizona is around eight thousand feet so you can see that the southwest is not all saguaro cactus and prickly pear. You got to love history that car would of cost around $ 1100 to $1400 dollars and was top of the line at that time as he could have bought two model T fords for the same price. The dude in the picture got himself a fine trophy that’s for sure I bet he drove away paying a sucker price to uncle Jim and displayed that big boy in his trophy room and for years after told big yarns of the dangers and peril he put himself in while taking that beast.
