Hey. I haven't hunted bear for a long time. And I run walkers. That get it done but if I was you. I would go look for a plott. I have never owned one. Well one of my hound has plott in him. But from what I read on this fourm about bear hunting. I see plotts more recomeneded than any other dog. But that's just my 2 cents

When I was only after bear I ran plotts. I'm running Blues now because they have stronger noses. Bear are stinky so the hound / bully plott is the way to go.

Sorry Just have NOT seen a Plott I wanted to own. Not saying they are NOT out there. just saying that of the breeds I have watched , TOO much JUNK out there in the PLOTT world .

Plain and simple Top beardogs are hard to find in any breed . I have been around more blues and walkers than any other but seen way more percentage wise top beardogs in plotts .

You must be looking in all the wrong places, because I have found the plott as a whole is far more consistant jmo.

Smiley - Mountaintop : I will agree there is TOO much junk in the hound world . Perhaps I am NOT being realistic I have seen more guys cull Plotts than any other breed. Anew hound for me is hard to pass the test . I won't purchase a hound if I have NOT hunted behind it at least twice . Which sometimes can be an Expensive Deal . I am NOT in the breeding business nor care to go that route. Presently running 2 blues , 1 B&T , 1 Majestic and 1 English . It is a great mix for me and combines to make the PACKAGE I am after.There are a lot of Plott breeders that have some Great Blood lines ,But are not often seen up in the North east . I would much rather transact my business under the tree. Yes I probably paid too much for each hound ,but at least I know what I was Getting . Maybe someday a PLOTT will fill the mix.

I hear the Bozo line of Walkers are gritty. A few Bozo dogs working a bear in the open, and seem to be tight!!!!

Maybe consider the Leopard Cur, I switched over to these dogs 20 years ago and couldn't be happier. They have enough grit and smart like a yard dog. Mike

Not sure what the beef is with the pic, but if you got a better one offer it up. I've got some yard room for a dog that's doing that. Not sure what more you want than maybe to eventually push it up a tree. Lots of stuff to bag on a guy for, but having dogs with a bear in the pic isn't usually one of them.

LukeS I wouldn't stack all your chips on one trait in a dog or a pack of dogs you may suffer down the road.

Larry you are a damn puppet. I looked at that picture last night and thought "What the hell is wrong with that picture". Nothing. The dogs are tight enough, they have him stopped and backed up to some brush. And held him long enough for someone to walk in there and take a F-in picture. I suppose those supper plotts of yours would have that sum bitch eared down and tearing his guts out. I'll bet the man that sold you those plotts would be proud of the way you conduct yourself.

You going to try to catch 2 lions this year or stay at your old record?

Rico, considering your record on bears, I guess it's pretty self explanitory. Thats what i was told anyway, alot like what you were apparently told too? I guess yo had to get your info somewhere? That plott you got help change your record this year? He looked like he would make a dog when i hunted with him if put in the right hands. how'd he turn out?

I think that is a pretty cool picture. Larry is just looking for a way to feel better about himself. I think it is getting old myself.

i have to agree, those dogs look like the are doing a damn fine job to me! nice picture!!!

Well rico I tell by your remarks you don't do much bear hunting. I have done some, I catch 2-3 bear a year and see very few on the ground. that should tell you somthing right there. Look at the bear, he is sitting down in the open. Bears that are getting the hair pulled out of there ass don't sit down in the open, they back up to a tree. His ears are pinned back, but he has not been charging the dogs. If had been charging the dogs they would not all be standing in front of him. Dogs that are getting charged move around behind and find a safe place to sink those big white teeth. These dogs are boggy barking the bear. They don't have the big brass balls to grab that bear. Bears will not sit down in the wide open if they are getting any type of pressure. When a bear gets in the open the dogs feel like they just won the lotto and will give it. The picture is sure cool for sure but read the fine print.
