I sure enjoyed the story of the hunt and appreciate you telling it. I climb on mules and go after hogs in the Ozarks every chance I get but I'm not out there today and so was glad to read this.

Agree, Bo. I can't figure why some folks just have the urge to flap their traps in attempts to tear down. All their doing is telling what jerks they are.

why does everybody think im a jerk? because i try to use logic when i think? i ask questions to get a better understanding of a situation. my dogs have never taken more than a 10 minutes to get out on a cat track and jump the animal up. maybe you use dogs that straddle a track and they take a lttle longer to get to the cat. maybe theres a benefit to that...again not sure...maybe someone can help me understand. its funny that im looked down upon for running against the grain. how are we supposed to learn to be better hunters if everyone just agrees without questions even if in the back of there mind they have one.

the jump depends on the freshness of the track.if all you run are smokin hot tracks then your gona jump em quick. around here were not usually that lucky and a two or three day old track gets to lookin perty nice. if you've got dogs that can cover the same ground in 10 min as a lion can go in couple days I want one.

ya houndnem it totally believeable to cold trail a lion track for two days but this track was 3.5 hours old tops since he said he cut them in the dark and it is light at 6:30 or 7:00 and the track was made at 3:00 am on the dot

Ya, you got a point there, I missed the part where he said it was made at 3. but that was just a guess and I would bet it was older. even at that anyone who has followed a hunting tom knows just how far they can move in three hrs. case in point, I went up above town one day and right at first light cut a fresh tom track. I dumped on it and it was a three hr race. in that time I started seeing strange dogs show up on the trail. the dogs belonged to some guys that hunt 1 hr north of where I was at. when they caught up to me they said they jumped him off a kill at 430 and waited just until legal turnout time and dumped. unbelivable how far this cat traveled from 430 till I treed it. just sayin.....

Merry Christmas to all!

Let's see if I can clarify it some. I have no idea why it took the hounds so long to heat it up for the first mile. I consider a track like this, almost smoking hot, certainly fresh. The track had to have been made right when the snow stopped, as there was just a few fresh flakes in it and 10 times as much frost standing up. I suspect that the frost had most of the scent in it and when the sun came all the way up, it started to warm and release it. I suspect when they they trailed onto where the Tom was hunting the kitten, that the mom and the male kittem where off to our left some and they kept on having to sort it out. This is probably why they we not totally open and pushing the track hard and Poppy got thrown out,or so I thought. This was precicely the same area where we ran onto all their tracks on the way back to the truck. We were heading up a long, very steep climb of about 2 miles to the top, we hit the kitten track 1/2 way up. A Tom with a 54" stride can cover a lot of ground quick. From where we started the track, to where the Tom bedded down was only 3-3 1/2 miles as the crow flies. I bet that even with him hunting the kitten, he was bedded down by daylight. So if it only took him an hr or two to make 3 1/2 miles of track, the whole string would have had time to freeze in by the time we got there.

Gotta Git...there is a sled sitting out there with my name on it and 3 days worth of fresh powder in the high country and we are supposed to have blue skies and 45 degree temps.... :beer

You are so full of Bull$iiTT. If you can not say something positive? Just don`t show how dumb you are by trying to talk about something you know nothin about.

I thought it was a great story. No need to try to explain anything more to you.
When you opened your mouth, we all new you did not ever go hunting much in similar conditions.

In all my years of hunting, you just never know what you or your dogs will run into.
Keep the great stories coming. We all like to hear them.

Well I do not know who Foxcat is, but Tim has been known to spew a little b.s. so I don't doubt for a second someone questioning him. I will tell you that I don't believe Tim is an honest man at all, and wouldn't believe ONE thing he says on here or in person. I could tell you all why, but I think that is between myself and Tim. HE knows why. It was a great story though Tim. You keep up the great work
