I'm glad I live were I do, I road my hounds most all summer (when I'm not bear hunting out of state somewhere) and I could probably count on one hand how many times I see a vehicle while roading in a summer. If I do see a vehicle it's someone I know and they usually stop and chat for awhile. I like to road the dogs 8-10 miles 3 to 5 days a week. I know it's not near as good as hunting but better than nothing and the young dogs learn to handle as well as trash breaking.

Someday someone will teach him some manners.

I hope when you all decide to block a public road so you can pick your dogs up you explain why your stopping someones travel, just because you were roading your dogs on a road that's not private.I run my dogs also just not on a road, especially a public one.We all love and care about our hunting dogs, but you block a road I'm on so you can pick your dogs upand your not friendly about it.I promise there would be words. You block a road you're no better than the jackass minding there own business driving down a public road. How are they to know you didn't have enough intelligence to keep your dog off of a public road. Here's your sighn!!!

makes you wonder what they would have done if kids were playing there. these are the same people that speed up when your hazard lights are on . it would of taken literally seconds for the guy to safely pass the dogs .i hate to say it but even an animal rights activist would have treated you better . i put that scumbag right below them. a drivers liscense and a vehicle doesnt give you the right to drive to endanger.

Well you made your point, spelling is important.Thank-you for pointing that out.And it's apparently okay to road your dogs on a public road that other people use.But because you're out there with the dogs every one needs to watch out for you.I agree people need to drive considerately. How considerate is it to block a road while people are trying to drive and your causing disruption. But that's why we live in the good ole USA-Freedom.I guess because we own hounds the roads automatically are our conditioning areas.I must be missing something about this whole thing.I won't say another word as it must be common knowledge that's where people road thier dogs.

Well I don't have any kids so why should I have to slow down in a school zone then. We wouldn't have to block the road if people wernt gunning it when they apperantly see the dogs. I think the most of the world has lost thier courtesy. All I sayin is they should slow down if they see your dogs I mean I would slow down if there kids were sleding next to the road.

Thats the point of a PUBLIC road its there for the public to use. These guys are not roading there dogs on some hwy or main road I would hope it was some back country dirt road. If they want to road there dogs down it they have that right same as a rancher has to move his cows down it or kids ride there bikes or you and I drive down it. I can tell you if a rancher was moving his cows down that road and some guy drove around him an did that to his cows he would be lucky to have a back window left. Same goes if some kids were riding there bikes on a country road in front of there home and some guy did this if it were my kids he would be lucky to be alive. The point is that road is yours and mine and that jack wipe who drove around him we own it we pay to maintain it with our tax money. We need to share it but if that means you have to wait 30 sec while I make sure my dogs, cows, or kids are safe then so be it. Thats life welcome to PUBLIC land.

Before you start talking to much about "rights" you probably ought to check your facts. Public road does NOT equal public land. For instance, there is a public road across my private property. Although the road is public, the land is still privately owned, there is just a public easement which gives the public the right to drive across my private land. The public easement does not give you the right to stop for any reason. Technically I can charge you for trespass if you even stop to take a leak.
If you must road them, my advice would be to get permission from a landowner to road them on a private road, or get a good enough handle on them and be alert enough to get them loaded up BEFORE that other vehicle get to you.

The area actually is private land you are only allowed access when you sign in and carry a permit. The vehicle in question was on the property illegaly, so they did not have permission to be there.

Go back and read the couple post standing up for the guy driving this way. I'm telling you folks we HAVE Fish and Game and or Bunny Huggers on this forum so watch what you say and post. Its easy to get a Log In ID and hide behind a keyboard. Just start watching what people write. Some of it is bashing houndsmen. Others seems like they are trying to start threads to illicit info. On another forum I posted a pict of my 10 yr old son standing by the truck holding an unloaded gun with the magazine out along with the story of him coming along to watch. With in 30 minutes I was contacted by someone who said F&G wanted to know if my boy had a hunting license. BEWARE what you post and who you talk to. And no I have nothing to hide and do not do any illegal hunting.

Cavebear, In my opinion that information makes a lot of difference. Since you were on a private road that you had permission to be on, then I would think that it would certainly be acceptable to block it to pick up your dogs.
On the other hand, just as it is completely indefensable to drive as that person did when passing you, it is also indefensable to block a public road, if a person does intentionally stop traffic on a public road just for his own convieniance, then he is being just as much of a jerk as the driver that accelerated past you.

Most of the land up here no longer belongs to the crown, instead it is owned by the timber companies who occasionally allow entry.

Here in Minnesota we have a public rite of way, we are allowed to trap, bike, walk, snowmobile, motor cycle, four wheel , ect. ect. in if desired, even if it's private property on both sides of the road and we stay out of the ditch line.
