I start off with one dog and my mother n law, then pull my dog back and go sit in the truck to finish my coffee. She'll scare anything up into a tree. then when I'm finished I set the dog to go find her and the cat.

I like to hunt a bunch on both lion and bear. I prefer to hunt 10 to 14 at a time. I know everyone probly would think that is to many but when they all handle well and are the right kind it sure is fun to see that many pounding out a lion in the dirt.

Hunt anywhere from 12-20. Have had as many as 30 depending on how many people we have with us for the day but most of them being young pups. We only hunt this many because we're very stupid.
Best year as far as catching percentage was when we ran 4 dogs. They all got dumped on everything and we usually ended up at a tree. Got boring really fast....lol
I usually hunt around 12 if im by myself, most of them being young dogs. Makes for better entertainment...lol They all get turned loose so if they wanna go they have plenty of opportunity. I have gotten away from turning dogs onto a track. I like to free cast them into it, even in the snow and let them figure it out by themselves. They seem to know more about this stuff then i do....
I like females and cut males but a good dog is a good dog.
Try a lil bit of everything til you find out what works for you.
Take care, jason

I'm very stupid also, Jason.

I have hunted anywhere from 7 to 20. You can't get 'em trained settin at the house!
Last week Missy and I made a circle to gether with 17 dogs. When they were all singing together, it sure was pretty music!

The more the merryier. I get bored if i aint ridn herd on about 8 of them stupid floppy eared SOB's.
Number of dogs dosnt matter as much as what kind of dogs. If your huntn 2 finished dogs and 8 knuckle heads your catching is going to be low. if your hunt 10 finished dogs and 2 knuckle heads your catch percentage is going to be better

Good post guys. I agree that the least amount of dogs is best if you want to kill or catch game. But like you all said they don't learn nothing in the box.

Two to four is plenty on lions, although I have caught a lot with just one dog. For bobcats, two is about max. Again, I have caught several with just one dog. Less is better also for tough cold tracks. A good dog will just about catch you anything. A fresh lion or bear leaves a lot of scent, and a large pack can easilly run it, but I don't like to handle too many at once.
