Live to hunt was not calling all Montana hound hunters lazy...Read the post. I happen to agree with him. Just because there is no snow doesn't mean you can't go out and hunt. You won't be catching as many as in the snow, but you can still catch 'em and they are usually even more rewarding as you can walk right along with the dogs in those kind of tough conditions. Knowing the area and lion habitat and habits and a having a couple of decent dogs with some nose and heart and a little boot leather out free casting the dogs in catty areas or even roading dogs through likely crossings can be productive. It is more work, and takes more patience, but watching them dogs grind out an old burnt out track or froze over track and then make the jump is well worth the effort and quite frankly, it doesn't get much better than that.

OK OK let me get the crayons and helmets out so you guys can understand this  What I was trying to do is give a guy that has not been at this sport to long he joined the forum less than a year ago ( Thursday March 18 2010) some positive incourgement to get them dogs out and hunt them do not over think the trailing condtions. come on we are in MT I have started tracks in frozen mud in the am and been rained out by afternoon. You do not "train a supper dog" by leaving him on a chain when there is no snow. Turn them dogs out and let them hunt :!:

Live to hunt yes i did read the first post and yeah i know you are talking about running with no snow i was trying to say that i dont think lion hunters are lazy at all i do agree some are, yes some drive around and just look for the smoking hot lion track and thats all they do, but those are not the people i hunt with if people cant get up and spend some time and put some effort into it then i don't have anytime for them thats all i was saying, not trying to cause waves man just saying, the three times i get out a week i never feel lazy at the end of the day. I think people over look and get a little excited on this web site, its all fun to me i just love to put a lion in the tree and get the dogs out thats all i do it for not to shoot one or close quotas, i like all of lion hunting its the best thing i have experienced and i live my life by it thanks. also last year last day of season i put a lion up it was sweet one of the funest chases i have been on.

I'm one of those guys that drives around after a fresh snow looking for a good track,i'll run that snow untill it turns to crap, then i will road the dogs.I do whatever method i think works best to put the dogs on some game.I always follow the dogs from where i turn loose to see the trail unfold and how well they sort the tough spot out and maybe i'm still hoping to pick up that 180 class whitetail the lion just killed.I do think we have it alot easier in this area than alot of places but as long as the dogs are treeing cats i'll take it.I have to hand it to ya Pchaser if you can hike 16 miles in january in montana before even starting a race you got me beat.four miles in this deep ol snow is plenty for me.

Hey Rookie you jumped on there and ran your mouth about how I do not know how to hunt anything in MT. The least you could do is answer my question?
