I had a fullblooded Faulk dog that died last summer.Good running dog,but not enough nose or grit for my liking.Sam spent a few summers in WI hunting the same area that I hunt, and I met Van at Sam's cabin one time.Sam had an outstanding pack of bear dogs, but they all seemed to have a little too much personality.I could never understand how he was able to sell his dogs. They all seemed to take a long time to warm up to strangers. The last I had heard, his wife was having some health problems.I hope things have gotten better. One of the last litters he had was sired by a dog of Garcia Underwoods named Spot that was a fullblooded Faulk dog.

I've had a few Faulk bred dogs. Most were only half of his breeding and half of something else. One was a faulk/bluetick cross and he was a really nice dog. The only full blooded faulk dog we had was a super strike dog and had a very cold nose.My bigest problem with him was that he was a coward. Once in a while he might stay close by for a ground fight but usually he would back track out from the fight barking the whole way. This was unacceptable to me. My fatherinlaw had him till he died last year at 12years old.

I met Sam on "cant tell ya mountain", California while he was camped there about 10years ago. He had some great storys and we sat in his camp for a couple hours listening to him till dark.My buddy knew him so we had stopped by his camp to say hello. If I remember right he had his wife and another couple there and there wasnt any of them that were under 60years old. They had killed an 80lb bear that day cause it treed right by the road.
