This is public easement, To political pressure. Not quality wildlife management. And no I do not believe that they are specifically looking for A major increase in the harvest. But they are trying to re-distribute it to remove the potential for problem cats in the more public areas. And SRD believes there should be no lions outside of the CMA's. Not A good management decision. But popular to the public. Will be A interesting two or three years.

Your right with the political preasure, and it's not reduction spacific in some of the proviance , however one of my CMA's (1) went from a Stable to a Sink CMA in the new regulation changes ...so they are looking for more lions to be harvested in alot of the proviance.

I agree somewhat to the fact that lions do not need to be out where there seems to be most of the problem matters occuring but there is little data on the number of lions being killed each year.
I totaly disagree with the landowner ruling as well as the boot season, I see this as an effort to reduce cost for SRD to deal with the problem lion issue.

Brent, you remember the last meeting in Rocky? No matter what was said their back was against the wall and their minds were made up before the meeting was held. I don't think for one moment they took any of our info down and applied it to their new plan. We had a good thing for a few years but unfortunately all good things come to an end. Someone wants to make a name for themselves with this new plan and it may hit us hard in the end. The boot season is a joke and I do believe a few more females being taken if someone is lucky enough to get a shot off when they trip upon them or worst case wound them. As for us not getting a chase season for the government wants to call it harrassment and use the public as a shield? I'm sure your right about them not informing the public on the possibilities of problem cats created by a boot season in rural areas. But this is what we are getting thrown at us. If we could get everyone on the same page and write to our MLA like you suggested, we may have a chance to move some issues around. If you ever want to call a meeting just say where and when and I'll be there if you think there is a chance to get some of these issues changed.

When you mentioned that the price of the lion tag dropped to about $20.00, and that the likelihood of more people buying lion tags at that price than they would at the original price, it got me thinking that maybe your wildlife managers are doing more to manage money than to manage wildlife. We've seen similar things here. Our lion tags have always been relatively inexpensive for residents (about $15.00), but the cost of tags for all other species have been going up steadily. We used to have about 17 days to hunt deer during our deer seasons in the fall. Several years ago, the game and fish department here in Arizona dropped the number of days of the hunt to ten in most areas and increased the number of deer permits. They put more hunters in the field at the same time. Roughly the same number of deer are killed each year, but the game and fish gets more money as a result of the additional hunters in the field. Our game and fish folks say that they are "increasing hunter opportunity" but it seems plain to me that they are only truly increasing the money they bring in, since more hunters in the field means more competition at any one time that you would have with other hunters for the same number of deer. I might be way off base here, but I wouldn't be surprised if the true motivations were simply to increase revenues.
