Tried to run some pups on a little tougher lion track than they could handle. After several hours of nonsense we packed up and treed a nice tom bobcat with more experienced dogs. Today was a different story however. Found a fresh track about three hours before daylight and watched the rain peck away at it until legal hours. Had to, we were less than a mile from the wardens house. It took the dogs about an hour to move it a half mile. They would hit hot spots and then silence. I don't know at what point they jumped the cat but it was a series of heated action and dead calm. Four hours later we caught up the two dogs and left. This cat stayed in about a fourty acre area on the steep side of the mountain covered in blowdown. The cat was not sinking too bad while walking but I thought sure we could catch him once jumped. Wrong! He schooled two pretty fair bobcat dogs and wore them out.
Fifty percent for the weekend. Not great but three and a half feet of snow and drizzling rain made it tough.
