Hey I just got an email listing the breeds of dogs that homeowners insurance will cancel you for and Catahoulas are on the list...kinda off topic but probably good knowledge to have.

They are considered to be a 'dangerous' (heelers are on there now too)breed...don't ever think all that anit-pit bull stuff won't come back to bite all of us in the a##. You can probably find a list on any dog owners defense groups especially the pit bull ones. If I get a chance I post it here...can't right now.
Here you go;

GLENWOOD, Iowa, March 9 (Animalid.biz) --
It is illegal to discriminate against someone based on sex, age, race,
religion, family status, national origin, military status, or disability.
However, 'Animal Rights' activists and their legislators pushing 'Animal
Rights' agendas on 'dangerous dog' legislation have now made it acceptable
to discriminate against someone based on the breed of their dog.
In most states it is legal (not moral) for insurance companies to charge
homeowners higher premiums or refuse to renew a policy based solely on the
owner's breed of dog.
Insurance companies claim that canine profiling helps bring down the cost of
homeowner policies.
Dog bites cost home insurers more than $300 million annually and are
increasing the premiums for those dog owners. As a result, some insurance
companies are refusing to issue property policies to owners based upon their
new insurance terminology lingo called "biting breeds."
Will your beloved pooch cost you more in insurance premiums or even the
ability to get insurance?
Failing to get involved in stopping "Animal Rights' perverted agendas in
legislation will have a direct affect upon dog owners needing insurance. You
won't have any dog, unless you can afford the discrimination in 'Canine
Profiling' by these insurance companies.
Around the country, banning pit bulls and canceling targeted pet owner home
insurance policies has become the popular answer to the dangerous-dog
question. Many states and the municipalities within them have jumped on the
animal rights dog 'ban' wagon as well.
The number of breeds already deemed dangerous should be enough to make any
dog owner dizzy. But the proliferation of breed-specific legislation that
sparked the 'Dangerous Dog' insurance terminology also may include 'Dog
Profiling" or bans on any mixes thereof. And on any dogs of a certain size.
just to name a few, all of which are becoming among the breeds banned or
regulated under various current Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) laws.
There are currently 75 banned dog breeds across the U.S. that insurance
companies are 'Dog Profiling" on as potential 'biting breeds' or potential
'dangerous dog' breeds.

How's that for scary? Are you as a responsible owner, of one of these dog
breeds wide awake now? How about just owning a dog that looks like one of
these banned dog breeds?
As TheDogWhisperer.biz, I Say: 'It is illegal to discriminate against
someone based on sex, age, race, religion, family status, national origin,
military status, disability, or dog breed ownership."
QUESTION: When are the responsible dog property owners going to rise up and
demand fair non-discriminatory treatment by insurance companies and
legislation, bankrolling their profits upon the agendas of the 'Animal
Rights' perverted activist movements in this country?
I will tell you the answer to the above question.
ANSWER: Not until each of YOU get involved and "Stand your Ground" for your
own pet - property ownership rights. The time to begin with ACTION to
preserve pet - property ownership rights is now.
Now what say YOU?

Yep they will not stop til everything over 10lbs is listed. Acauly even those little bitty dogs can bite enough to drawn blood but I would guess people would be embarased to claim that a toy poodle can kill someone. (There was an incedent where this little poodle type dog licked this 90+ bed ridden lady until she bleed to death, thin skin and she was un attended and unconsious, made the news last year in tucson).
Any dog can and will bite in the right(or wrong) situation. Its up to the owner to control thier dogs.

They have the same breed listed two and three times as differant breeds of dog , the AUS Cattle Dog & Blue Heeler, the same dog. My heelers will eat you way before any one of my cur dogs get to ya, all the cur dogs do is make ya cry for mamma, but my heelers and my curs are the best family dogs. I have a 10 year old boy, a 8 year old boy and a 15 month old daughter, and god help you, if any of those kids make a noise they shouldn't make, my two cow dogs are right there, and I dont care if you were Micheal Jhonson, you wont beat'em in a ten foot dash LOL And I hunt'em all, it doesn't make a differance as far as it concerns the family . Joe just senda ya some more pics of your pup,

I have hunted catahoulas and been around them for years and I think they would be worthless for Bear and Cat. My hog dogs have run bear here in Florida and They do nothing when they tree. Bark up the tree for maybe 2 minutes then lose interest very quickly. Interesting since they will stay with a hog bay for hours. I have never seen any really tree anything.
Pops,
A lot of the Cracker curs are have blackmouth/catahoula/bulldog/birdog cross whatever hunts. The old ranchers just breed best dog to best dog no matter breed. The good ones have been breeding there lines for a good while. Most are hot to medium nose and all are pretty rough. Just like all breeds some good and lot of people passing off any dog that looks like a cur as a cracker cur!
