Well I guess you could glue your rug on to your hood but most people just get the ones that snap to the underside of your hood, then you can take it off and on whenever you want
I have had someone hit me on a forest service road before...can't imagine if there had been a dog on a rig cage in between my truck and the other one, but to each their own.

i have made carpeted hoods for toyotas, nissans, and some fords. i think around 7 hoods so far, every time i just get a extra hood from the junk yard(40 dollars) and spray foam in the framing on the underside to give support(3.50 a can). and indoor out door carpet is about 12 bucks from homedepot. plus the spay adheasive is about 8 dollars a can. normally one will do it. should be able to make one for under 75 dollars.
i like the cage idea as far as the dogs not getting hit by the brush, but with how tight most logging roads are i think it would become a hassle out here trying get turned around.

I use a front rig box its better than carpet on the hood because the dogs arnt in the way of seeing mine goes in a front receiver so just the sholder and head are above the hood rigging is a lot more fun when you can see them go to my web site and see my set up at WWW.outonalimboutfitter.com

I never used the cages but i've hood rigged curs for hogs alot we just use those grip strips. U can buy them at alot hardware stores. They have sticky backs so just stick'em on the hood and the dogs get plenty trackion. Now i would'nt want to put them on the "take momma up town truck" but we got them on our huntin trucks.

Why would you go to all the trouble, they do just as good on the box. Better I think because they are higher up to get more wind. Dewey

i dont find it much trouble to spend a hour or so making one, and your right about the dogs on the box winding better, but on the front they can hit a older track that crossed the road. i hunt with 5 on top and 2 on the hood. some times i get a strike on the hood that none of the top dogs hit, they normally are not wind strikes, it goes the other way too, plenty of times the dogs on the box hit when the ones on the hood dont. i like to try to cover as much of the scents the dogs take in i guess, i also dont road my dogs to hunt them, rigging only.

I like the idea of the bumper rig cage. If built right it could be really convenient. And all the hunting for bear i've done never seen any in my area with one..

I would personally just keep them in the back on top of the box, in case ur off roading and you hit a rock stump exc thats at the same hight of ur cage it could hurt the dog a bit

We use the front rig cages a lot. As mentioned earlier you keep your dogs out of the limbs above the road, they can hit an old track better, and you can see which way they're windin, which is something that's a little harder to do when they're on top of the box.

hunted with a guy years ago who had one on his bumper. you could see the dog when he striked but I would always box my dog on the box and his dog seldom struck before my dog. but then again I never seen many dogs strike ahead of ole ben. and it was a pain to turn around sometimes. jmo

Well that's also true. They are a pain to turn around. I guess they all have their pros and cons.
