You brought up something very important and that is environment., environment does play a very important part. If you can have someone in another state or states that breeds the same related family of hounds as yours those can be very useful to improve a breeding program.
As far as years of hunting by experts instead I would breed the hounds to be the experts naturally knowing what to do. That’s not saying that you do not have to test them in the field because without doing that your just wasting your time.
In breeding livestock there lots of money for research used to make more profit. I brought up livestock so it would be easier for me to explain how having a knowledge of genetics can improve any breeding program.
Your question of can inbreeding improve what you have? You bet any other method is just a guess.
