I had a gunsmith buddy rebarrel a mod 94 winchester in a 30 Herret, it's in a trapper lenght. I thought it would work great on lion but have never give it the test. I just keep using the 22mag as it works so well when placed right, with zero damage.

Quote Peg Leg: Hounds tend to be more gun shy when your firing a howitzer over their heads then a mellow pop gun so i use light loads.

I was glad to see Peg Leg address this. I am always very guilty of just assuming that everybody is aware of the problem that this can cause. And I know all the elite dog trainers will jump all over this. And tell us all about the pot banging, blank pistol shooting, and 22 Long rifle shooting at feeding time when the pups are weaned, that will certainly take care of any kind of gun shy problem.  And I guess you can go down that Merry Road. And possibly get away with it a certain percentage of the time, but as sure you are breathing, the light will come on one day. Because when things go wrong. I will guarantee you that it will be with a truly young superstar of a pup. And you will have ruined it. I know I don't know what I'm talking about. Because you're so silly Willie, all you have to do is tie them up before you shoot when you get to the tree. Well, unfortunately, I have been down that road. And when you get one that truly doesn't like the gun from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail. You will never get the opportunity to put the leash on it at the tree and tie it up. As when it sees you coming. It will be going over the next mountain. This probably should've been a new topic, but being Peg Leg mentioned it here. I just figured I would post here.

Take care, Willie

This explains why I cant find a single dog for several days after unloading a full drum of 7.62 x 39. :beer
