I agree totally with HoundDawg. I have a TRX 1000 and a Tracker. I've hunted with guys using alot of other boxes. I hunt in mountainous country. The only one I don't have experience with is the Marshall Box. The Tracker is nicer to carry but I can pinpoint the dogs much better with the Wildlife. I have had to go get other guys dogs for them while they are swearing at their box and not finding their dogs. If I could only have one it would be the Wildlife.

i myself think the quick track is the best. my friend has a tracker and i couldnt tell you how many times it took use in circles. and the quick track is easy to learn.

HoundDawg wrote: So I can't say which is best, but I will tell you that nobody is going to "out track" you if you're using a TRX 1000. I've hunted with a bunch of guys, and all the different boxes and never once had anyone get a signal on the dogs when I couldn't get one with the 1000.
But you have never put it up agianst a Marshall Stealth or you would be saying that

To be honest I don't know anything about a Marshall Stealth, but I know Marshall has headquarters in Salt Lake City.

When I went to buy my first tracking box, I didn't have the benefit of a myriad of chat rooms to ask people what they used. I just asked three different hunters what they were using. The three of them weren't friends, lived in different parts of the state and combined had over 60 years of running hound dogs between them.

When all three of them said, "I use a Wildlife Box and Johnson collars" it made my decision pretty easy.

When all the old timers start telling me they use the Marshall Stealth and when I get my Wick Outdoor Works catalog and it's plastered with Marshall Stealth instead of Wildlife boxes, I'll be on the phone ordering one.

But for me personally, Wicks is still standing behind Wildlife Boxes and the old timers I know are still happy with them. So for me it's still an easy decision. When they all start telling me Marshall is better, I won't have any reason to doubt them.

Tell you what, when I'm on the mountain looking all confused and can't get any reading at all, you show up and whip out that Marshall box and locate my dog, and the next day I'll own a Marshall Stealth and you can bet I'll be telling the world they're the best.

But Wildlife boxes have been recovering dogs for longer than I've been hunting so they're good enough for me. Of course I don't hunt anymore so it's pretty easy to locate them when they're in the backyard.

most of the people i hunt with in these north carolina mountains uses ether the tracker 1000 or the 5000 mostly the 5000 we all can agree that it is the best trackin system we have used. and i hunt with guys that has had 30 years of experiance or more.

Ya see Brent I thought you were smarter than that. Marshall has been around longer than you have been in hounds too.... Ya see I know who you started running hounds with. Old timers seem to hold on to the old ways and you know as well as I do that isn't good in electronics, something will always be better on the shelf tomarrow.
Last time I talked to John Wick he was using a Marshall, he was carring them for awhile but Marshall couldn't keep up with the demand he had. So he stopped carring them, which I don't blame him.John is a bussiness man and a very smart one to boot.

To Argue the better tracking box dont you think you should maybe try them all. Between Me my Dad and my Granddad, we have always used Wildlife and Johnson collars, And I am here to tell you , you need to check it out for yourself rather than go on something someone tells you

Paco,

I never said Marshall hadn't been around for a long time. I haven't been in hounds that long and I'm guessing most of those companies have been around longer than me.

And you are probably thinking I started hunting with Chris, but you're slightly confused. I started hunting with a guy from down by me with the same first name as me. He's out of dogs nowadays. Chris married my wife's cousin and I started hunting with him a bit. But he didn't talk me into a Wildlife box, we bought ours together. He had never owned one before either.

Maybe the Marshall Stealth box is better in every way than the Wildlife box. Just like Blueticks are better in every way than Walkers. Maybe that's true, maybe not. But we all have our opinions and I just gave mine.

The guy asking the question can read all this and decide whatever he wants. If I ever get to the point where I've been in dogs as long as all the other Utah legends that all invented hounding and taught Wiley Carroll the trade, then I'll probably have time to try all the blue dogs, all the white dogs, all the collars and all the tracking boxes... and then I'll know for sure.

But for me it ain't broke so I'm not going to fix it but when that Wildlife box falls off the truck and breaks in half, then you can get me a new Marshall Stealth for Christmas and I'll let you know what I think. :D

Sorry dude but you lost me with your first line. "Ya see Brent I thought you were smarter than that." Anybody that mistakes me for being smart, well dude I can't help you there!!

If you don't want to wait until Christmas, feel free to send that new Marshall Stealth over ASAP!! :D Hell, if I can drink Natural Light then I'm damn sure not too proud to switch over and use a Marshall. ;)

Paco,

You said "Brent , You don't have to wait till Christmas come down and lets go for a hunt, your always welcome here."

Come on down to where? Are you a Blanding boy? For some reason I was thinking you lived up here somewhere in the valley.

My dogs are all in the kennel so Tony is back. I think he just went down for two days and he's back. Too many people down there he said. They only had one race I think, but said he saw license plates from about every state but Alaska and Hawaii. :)

I don't know about him having a rough time. They didn't catch one Saturday or Sunday but I think he's been down twice before that and caught three or four the first trip (and some cubs) and then he caught four the last two days of the hunt. Two a day.

I guess if that's struggling then yes he is struggling. Us bluetick guys have the bar set pretty low. We know going in we can't keep up with those high powered white dogs. We just take whatever table scraps we can get. :)

You'll have to catch me later on. I'm going to Alaska this week and the brand of bear I intend to look at is a wee bit larger than these Utah bears. I'll be back in August or whenever Trent runs out of money or the river runs out of kings. ;)

Love to come join you guys for some 100 degree bear chases but I got "bigger fish to fry" as the saying goes. ;)

Tony is going back down for a week I think at some point. If he can't find the dogs with his TRX 2000 I'll have him call you in to save the day. ;) Just drop off my complimentary Marshall to him and he'll see that it gets to me. :D

Go give 'em hell down there and go easy on those poor struggling bluetick guys. Help Tony out if you run into him. He really has a rough time catching bears. Sometimes only one a day if you can imagine. ;)
