Had a female from Dan and was one of the best hounds I had, also had a female that was half Layser and could catch about anything you put her on…great hounds and fast as well.

Did the search and couldnt find much. How would some one go about getting ahold of Mr. Lay? I hear he has a long waiting list, might as well call now.

I hunted with some Lays hounds years ago and they are fantastic dogs. Only down side is they are too big. They can go but after 3-4 days of runnin bear hard they need a few days off. This is why my buddies switched to 55-65 lb dogs. Also it is a myth you need a big dog in BC.

Joe your right you don't need big dogs in BC, my smaller dogs hold up better then my bigger dogs and they all get hunted had.

Great looking hounds. I would hate to feed hounds that large.

I believe pics are from a few litters of pups ago all litter mates, if I can remember correctly they are five months in the pics. Fairly decent for a bunch of pups to tree like this.

Based on what little info I could find about the history of the Lay hounds, are they essentially what we know as the "Majestic" type, with a previous influence of bloodhound?
A friend loaned me a hound hunting video a while back that had to be from the late nineties/early 2000's that had a feature with Dan Lay and his dogs. They took a lion hunt in the winter and there was some good footage of his hounds in action. Before the hunt it showed a large pen at Dan's place with a crop full of older pups that Dan was starting and selling at the time.

phone dan and tell him his dogs are majestic. you've obviously done no reaserch had u, u would have phoned dan and asked what his dogs are! The majestic paper pushers came to Vancouver island and tried real hard to get dan to sign there papers and call his dogs majestics. after carfully reading the papers dan told them there was a goat farm down the road whith those leggy long eared goats. matched the criteria for a majestic perfectly! If you want to find out what his dogs are go back way further. Dub Evans owned two hounds Brownie and Little Brownie find out what those were youll be closer!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think brownie and little brownie belonged to slash ranch
