Re: Teamwork or individual dogs

I like Robin Powell's style of hound hunting....One dog that can get the job done and add another dog accordingly. The down side is if you were to lose a dog than you are in for problems.... But if you insist on owning complete dogs, you are still in business if you only own one dog....I have listened to Marks dogs run and got to admit it is pretty cool! I find I do more road trips these days aimed towards easier country to navigate or to find open areas to hunt that isn't locked up....Traveling for long periods of time with fewer dogs is the route to go....I have done a road trip for six weeks and could not imagine traveling with ten dogs....
I will toss this out for what it is worth to those guys who only hunt bobcats in the snow who think it can't be done with large numbers of dogs in a bobcat race...Bare ground is different than snow....Large numbers of dogs can be used successfully....The next myth is only one or two dogs are doing all the work and the rest are just along for the ride....Spend enough time observing your dogs and listening to the race start to finish can teach a guy a lot about dogs....I have owned very few dogs that you could not distinguish each individual bark from each other....This is the thrill of the hunt....I like small packs of dogs best. I never was interested in caring for a bunch of hounds at home either.....I watched that 14 dog bobcat race at the tree on facebook....Dang!
