I grew up with a hound hunting family, dad, granddad, uncle, great uncles ect. So some things I think I do without even realizing or thinking about. Like the good advice Flip gave on analyzing the race. One thing I would add that I realize I do after reading that is when the hounds make a lose is I pay attichion to the last dog barking and where it shut up at, than what dog picked it up and where the pickup was made in relation to where the last dog barking shut up. If the same dog is the last one you hear on most loses and not making any pickups and other hounds are picking it up aways from where that dog shut up than that dog is more than likely babbling, too loose mouthed, me too barking or what ever you want to call it. That dog will make a lot of people think it is doing a lot more in a race than it is really doing , which is hurting your race more than helping it! JMO. Boy this stuff is really hard to try an explain, it's a lot easier to do. Hope I have not confused everybody.
