I think Utah had the cat treed on this past Monday. Ran real well and hard opened up every breath. He sounded like he had it caught so Travis and I headed in. Half way in Utah started coming right at us opened every breath again. Never saw him or the cat. Went out around us. Went hard for awhile longer and we think the cat got into some ledge and that's where we found Utah but no cat. My only answer is that he had it treed and the cat jumped. Nothing we can do bout that. It was a good hunt and the closest we've been to utahs first cat.

I'm proud of him that's for sure. Just wish I could get some fur in his mouth. The weather has taken a turn for the worst the last few days. Today didn't leave negative numbers. Hopefully things will get warmer in the days to come. Hope you guys are doing well with the cats and enjoying the races as much as we are. Even with no cats to show for were having a blast just being out there and learning the ropes.

Not to mention the work out we are getting in some of those spots Corey! When this snow stops we will hit the road hard and put on another race. I bet it will be another good one!

Been there, done that, have the t-shirt. Sounds like you guys are a great team. You both sound as if you have the desire to make cat hunters. Now just add patients and you've got it!

Thanks URE. Corey and I had another good hunt yesterday. Fresh snow good track but it ran right into the ledges. Well Ole Utah crammed himself right in behind it and there he stayed for about 2 hours or so. Randy, Corey and myself all tried to climb in that hole but it just wasnt happening. Utah was opend right up the whole time, not stop. It was kind of scary though, Had we not been right within seeing distance we never would have know where he was till we cut his track because when you got 20 feet away you couldnt hear him at all. He finally came out, like I said 2 hours later and after the porcupine that also inhabited the hole smacked him with his tail. Needless to say that ended our day with a trip to the vet. I don't think that he bit it cause he didnt have any in his mouth. Does anyone have any tips on how to get your dog out of a hole when you cant see em and they are opened right up?

You need to turn in another dog to show Utah what to do with them once hes got them bayed up. Maybe your old dog on a short chase will give him the "how to". Nothing finer than seeing a pup putting it all together! Just had my year and a half old bluetick stick his head in a big tom lions mouth yesterday and come back for more! It will happen just get there with him and show him how.

Well cat hunting isn't for the faint of hearts that's for sure. Travis and I and another friend have been at nonstop. Its all new to us but it seemed as though this last run the cats were all laid up in the ledges. Seems like the cats don't walk as much in this deep snow. We found the track crossing the road. I put Utah on it and it was over shortly after that because the cat was already in the ledges we cut another track ontop of the ledges put Utah on it he trailed it right to another ledge. We circled it 4 times and found no cat track exiting those ledges. Utah bailed in and was opened right up inside but came out with 100 quils in him. We know that cat was in there but I didn't realize cats would den up with porcupines. I'm gonna have to break him off them. Is it normal for cats to be dened up all day like that. I think we could be catching cats right now if we could get away from the ledges but that's the only place we've been finding tracks with the deep snow

Most bobbers will hunt during the night and then ledge up in the rocks for the day. You can try running one at 3 or 4 am in the low trees and see what happens if you cant get a cat started away from the cliffs. I dont even turn out any more if i see a track heading into the rocks. Its definetely their turf and they know how to use the ledges to their advantage. I would look at the sage, cedar, pinion, country and see if your luck changes.
