When I lived in Washington and when I hunted Oregon a lot I cat hunted almost yearround. When I moved to Idaho I started bear hunting again. So now I bear hunt in the summer but still tree the occasional bobcat or lion. Definitly cat hunting in the hot and dry time of year improves your dogs tracking abilities.
