IMO
The FN 5.7 is the ultimate small game pistol. It is light weight, holds 30 rounds with a clip exstention and is accurate to 100 yards. Myself and friends have bought 9 5.7's and we all love the 5.7. The gun will cost a few bucks, but well worth it.

I packed a S&W model 48K for years. it is a 6" 22 mag. It still is one of the most accurate pistols I've seen. They made them in 8 3/8" also, the originals were blued. A few years back S&W made a run of them in 6" stainless, and they can still be found. I don't hunt coon, but can't guess the number of Bobs that hit the ground dead as a door nail from that gun. On a nice day I can still cut key holes with it, but get my eyes in a dark canyon looking into a black tree, and I don't shoot it like I used to. The best round I've seen for a 22 mag pistol is Winchesters 45 grn. CCI made some for awhile that were loaded with Speer Gold-Dot bullets, and I really like them, but haven't seen them in a long time.
You couldn't run fast enough to give me an AMT, I don't like them at all.
I bought a Marlin Papoose, and it's a pretty handy little gun if your eyes are not what they used to be.

I have to agree, a small game pistol isn't my cup of tea. If i were to buy a small game pistol, it would probably be a 38 or something since i have a few 22 pistols. now as far as rifles go, the 17 hmr and the 17 fireball work well. My personal preference for you would be to go out, spend the money and buy a HOWA 22.250. Put a bi-pod on it and an NCstar 10-40-50 scope. shooting at 4000fps with a scope that can reach as far as the eye can see, you can never go wrong.
