Cold Track,
I share your frustration and i too get sick of deer and elk hunters going on and on about livestock in the mountains. The livestock industry is the business that I knew first and love best and anybody that knows me can tell you that I am all about helping good ranchers and livestock folks. The livestock folks are not to blame for the shape a lot of the mountain ranges are these days it's the damn beuarocrats and gov. agencies. Good greif half of the western mountains liked to burned up this year because of poor forestry practices. If you can find an old photo of a section of mountains in the west that has been used for stock from say the earlier part of the 20th. century and then compare it with a photo of the same section today you will see some startling differences. When proper logging and burning were mananged you would see many open park areas with standing large trees and grass for critters to eat, but today about the only controlled burning that is done is an out of control wild fire that is left to burn everything including the big trees out and then you end up with a whole mountains side of trash brush and scrub trees sucking up all the moisture and very little actual grazing left. True cattle and sheep eat grass and don't have the impact on deer who are browsers but they do impact the elk feed to some extent however elk are free rangers and will move to the best feed sources. I do not condone over grazing of any section of land but once again the Gov. Agencies prove they really don't care if you will look at an area close to me the western section of the Carson National Forest. Elk numbers have dropped off recently due to over grazing but it is not from rancher's cattle it is from an out of control wild horse herd that is currently at a level four times of what even they say the area can hold. But once again common sense was thrown out the window and the killer markets were stopped due to bleeding hearts and we have horses runing out our ears. So where is the logic these days I ask you? It sure beats me.....
