This is my preferred method of bear hunting. You can strike old tracks and strike wind strikes. Also a lot faster to turn around on narrow roads.

Why not just run a hood mat? upholstery guys make em well; they strap on with out effort, Felt bottom, rubber middle with canvas on the top with d rings sewn in. Hold up really well. Im about ready to have one made. Work great and you can see what your dogs are doing.

You must keep that rig on roads. I know my trail system you would end up flipped every time you went more the 5 miles and hour

I had a real nice one on a receiver hitch on front, it was OK but made my truck too long for some Kelly humps and creek crossings. I used it in Vermont, New Mexico, Idaho and Alaska. It's cool to see exactly who's striking what and when but in the end not worth it for my hunting. I get good rig stikes from the bed of the truck, and it doesn't matter where you put a dog that doesn't rig, he's still not rigging. Gave mine to a lady so she could haul gas with her Durango and keep it outside of her rig. Here's a disclaimer: I'm hunting southeast Alaska rainforest country- very high humidity, usually raining a downpour, so our scent is usually low and almost non-existent. On a rare dry breezy day I get wind strikes (lay-up type stikes) half a mile or more away.

Yes it is primarily for gated roads. On real nasty trails I just unload the dogs and have them follow, rather than risk getting them killed.
