I am sorry also for your loss, we have had to quit or not run a few races because of wolves and that is bad enough, just goes to show you can never actually know when those killers are around. wish you the best in your situation.

You stopped by my house to pick up your buddies female that day. I'm sick about the dogs. Only good wolf is a dead wolf.

My hat's off to you guys that are offering help in the way of dogs that are already started. Far too often this hound gig is overrun with jelousy and contempt for other hound hunters.
If it weren't for others, I would have been out of good hounds at least a couple of times. Just 3 years ago Larry Hendrix gave me a trained 6 year old dog because I needed more power in my pack. Last year he gave a young man that was wanting to get started a trained dog and a pup. Our dogs that are going, much less fully trained, have real value. Larry sells his dogs for $10,000.00 each. That's one heck of an example for the rest of us to follow!
Good job guys!
Catcrazy, I hope that this is just a rough spot in the trail, and that you still enjoy decades of following the baying of good hounds.

I am in eastern Montana I have some nice young dogs and pups I could part with. I know they dont replace what you have trained but you are welcome to one or two if you want to try them out.

Thanks for all the kind comments. Drew and I were heart broke to deal with this tragedy. I had been in this drainage the entire day the day before, and actually hiked into a tree and caught brought my last two dogs off the mountain at 3 AM from this exact drainage. Fortunately I had three dogs home or all of mine would be gone with the rest of our dogs. I can't tell you how hard it is to see your hunting buddy and his brother walk out of the woods with your two daughters packing dead dogs. To see my daughter Secora's face matteded with her her dogs blood and coat drenched in blood packing her little dog off the hill. Drew amnd I might have hunted Tequila, but that little dog was her heart, she loved that little bugger... hard for me to think about it right now.
I am glad to say Drew and my 14 year old daughter Adeline went out with a buddy and took some pups out and treed a lion yesterday. I was worried that Adeline wouldn't want to hunt dogs again after seeing what happened, but like her mother she is tough. I know her and Secora still want to take the Jeep and snowmachines and dogs when I am working, so I guess the bunny huggers didn't win. Not many 17 and 14 year old young ladies just load the hounds and gear and hit the woods. LMAO Only thing that has changed as they said they don't want to have to share a handgun (they usually just take mine when they go) and both want their own to pack. Thanks again everyone, nice to know the hound world is a tight knit family. Casey
PS Mr Potter, was great seeing you the other day, you sure are welcome to tag along sometime. Nice to know we have a hound friendly man 'up the creek' keeping an eye out for our pups~!

Casey - you and the girls are always welcome at the house - run short of gas I always have some on hand - and your right nothing like born and raised Montana girls .
Going down to look at some pups in Stevi tomorrow - been too long since I have had a hound around so i might take you up on that.
Matt
