I know a bit of history on the the Slash Ranch hounds and Evans Family, as do most on here. So I guess that may answer my question on their bloodline broadly speaking. Do you currently own any hounds directly from Dan or Kyle Lay?

I agree, Dan is a good friend of mine and he doesn't put labels on his hounds other than Layser and they have been blood typed by the University of Florida and they are very prepotent bloodline.

As to the Slash dogs : The original Brownie was given to Dub Evan's father by and arms and gunpowder company while they were still in west Texas and this was shortly after 1900 and this dog was a registered American foxhound which later became knows as Black and Tan long eared variety. When the Evan reached New Mexico you cna see they crossed these black and tan type dogs on Redbones and also added some prison bloodhound but that percentage became very small. These dogs also bred very true to type although later with trades and out breeding to the hounds of Ernest, Clell and Dale Lee you began to see some ticking and spotting influence in the Slash Hounds. Also if you look thru the Riley Miller book ( Cold Trail) photos of the Lee Brothers you will see many high tan, regular black and tan and tons of red dogs, and many of these had blood that ran back to the hounds of the Slash Ranch.

Layser hounds trace back to southwestern big game stock and I am sure the blood of the Lees, Goswicks and Evans has flowed thru their veins for many years. No better cold trail dogs have ever been than these and they are still in constant use today by the most succcessful bare ground hunters in the world.

I own a bunch of muts that work a little every once and a while. Everything I know about hounds Dan or My father taught me! I should give kyle a little credit to. me and kyle went to school together and my family and his are very good friends.

If any of you guys with experience and knowledge of the Layser hounds could dig up more pictures of dogs from Dan/Kyle or with their breeding, I'm sure we'd all enjoying seeing them. Thanks!

i will see what i can do as far a pics. If you want real knowledge of breeding id phone dan or kyle. but i think the answer will stay the same there layser . lol. but i believe the original dogs that jack started with would go back to old blood lee and slash ranch stuff.

This redtick dog to my right is out of a Layser female that Riley Miller had .. the glass eyed hound in front is out of his full sister... He was a lot better hound then I knew at the time.. and she is still pretty good. His Daddy was a registered english hardtime breeding... Slow starter real good nose would really stay on a hard track, sitdown tree dog and would really put a lot of pressure on a bear.. not trashy at all except for javalina. But like I said was a real slow starter. I don't believe from what I read on here a lot of these guys would have kept him because of that but it probably was my fault he didn't start sooner.
