Law, they have worked pretty good. I haven’t left the kennel wondering if I’m going to hear a good race or not. I’ve noticed my spur of the moment decisions have worked a LOT better than my well thought out plans. I can overthink things if I don’t watch out.

Muleman. I got him from a buddy who was getting out, to breed to bc the way he runs and his pedigree, and after I breed him I prob get rid of him, if I dont kill him 1st, he is tough to keep quiet in the box, and isnt 100% trash proof
(All problems allowed by former handler). But he has a big hollering mouth and can run a piece if game, and in shape can turn with the game like he tied to it.

Bear, coon, greys and the occasional red depending on where I'm running. I just don't have the speed to catch reds, if I could find non pen dogs like I have read you run I would add one to the pack there just rare as hens teeth around here.

Phillip, if you will get yourself (1) just (1) running dog pup and it can be from pen dogs or whatever, put it with your dogs and train him the way you want it to hunt and I think you will be surprised. If you get more than one they will team up and go hunting and your older dogs want have much influence unless you keep them close with a e collar. Get the pup before it 4 months old. Some of the pen boys will have them in a pen at 4 months. You need to get them before they have been messed with. That’s has been my experience, they are smart and easy to handle.

I think running a red fox down and catching him is not easy to do with fast dogs.

Thanks for the advice muleman that is something I've considered but have been weary of trying only because my pack is deer proof and most running dogs around me are deer dogs, as you know breaking off deer with our high population takes some work. Your also right about the speed, maybe I just assume a red couldn't pull it's trucks if the pack was on top of him. Thanks for the input, something to think about for the future. I just see those 27inch speed demons and imagine the possibilities.

If you have deer proof dog already you want have any trouble with him. That is the biggest part of deer proofing,I never could and still cant break dogs off deer.

Muleman, I always felt easier to break in an area with plenty of deer, more opportunity to correct. If not alot of chances to run a deer hard to ever trust them when they do cross a track. Watched a fawn run thru about 8 of mine this morning, some just looked and some took maybe 3 strides towards the running game (predatory instinct) then turned and went about their buisness, never had to holler or push a button, few of those dogs were only 9-14 months or so old.

If I needed a running dog I'd try a pen dog, that being said I dont generally like pen dog bred dogs, but have hunted a few over the years that turned out, and a few more that didnt. I tend to stick with stock of dog that has suited, not all dogs seem created equal for all type of game in all type of areas
