Cold nosed,
Jim already told me that your pup is the only one that made it. He was sick about how that whole thing turned out. What female of Jeffs was that pup out of?

Mr Leonard, do you know anything about a dog named Rusty that Jeff had from Worthen. I believe he came out of the dogs from the lion study years ago. It had to be some time ago, like in the 80's. Thanks

Mike ,
Jeff and I were visiting last night and I asked him about the Rusty dog. He remembered him and he was from Jim Worthen. He said the dog had some Emmet, Carroll and Goswick in him. He said he was just a good dog not a great dog.
Jeff said that Ace was sired by a dog Garn Blackburn had and out of a Nance female he got from Leon Cox.
Garn Blackburn was another great bare tground hunter from the Kanab area that hunted with Jack Butler.
Del Cameron once said that Garn Blackburn impressed him more than any other lion hunter he had met. Not sure why just had a way about him I guess.
I always loved one of Garn's famous saying about choosing a hound to make a real lion dog. He said. You can't make good chicken salad out of chicken $hit! LOL!

Talking to Jeff he said the Tucker dogs was sired by SLIM AND CINDY OLD STOCK WAS THE MOTHER.
Slim's registered name was CENTERFIRE TOM
He was sired by CENTERFIRE SAMPSON AND HIS MOTHER WAS RILEY A FULL LITTERMATE TO TOPPER AGAIN. So he is full Nance Registered stock.A half brother sister cross.

Quite a few of them are used on bear. Sampson himself is a good bear dog and many of his pups are really good tuff bear dogs. Topper Again is an awesome bear dog, rig dog, and was also a hog stopping get ahold pig dog. the guys that hunted him down in florida were nuts about him and the way he handled hogs and bear. Allen's Joe a own son of Topper Again was kept down there by these hard core bear and hog hunters and I guess they are getting some real bear dogs out of him.

Thanks for the information on the Slim dog Mike. Interesting to know that he was a registered dog. Jeff made some crosses back and forth there with that Slim dog on some of the old strain that produced some real consistant cold nosed, tough dogs. Most of those pups start themselves and never look back. There is no coaxing these dogs for the most part. Its pretty impressive how they can handle a tough track from a young age.

Does anyone know if Jeff Allen's Centerfire tom (slim) had a litter mate brother, or brothers, and if any of them are proven big game hounds?
