Some good advice there. Starting from the bottom can suck a lot but trust me when you do get things going its probably one of the most satisfying things you can do. Personally I would go out and find a guy who has a good older dog that he might want to sell, even if it's just one that can tree coons on its own. That way you can get your pup started on coons and go from there once they are doing it on their own. At least the older dog can teach them the basics and help you out a lot. I am a man who likes to let their dogs do it on their own but Im not opposed to helping them out if they absolutely need it, get in there and help them through some tough spots. I would stop getting more dogs until you actually either spend the money to get an old pup trainer or can run with someone else who has some good dogs. All the dogs I have I either raised from pups or the 2 older I got from the pound, you will get there just keep at it.

there is no reason you cant coon hunt with the bnt and the pup untill the pup is treeing and doing good. then you could sell the bnt and buy an older catdog . once the pup is treeing good and knows whats going on i would change to strickly cats. if you could find a local cat hunter to ride with that would help a ton . i think your headed in the right direction good luck.

dont worry about your dog not doing anything on a caged coon. dont even mess with a caged coon. there job is to chase the animal up the tree, or chase it till it stops and they have to bay it up. without the chase the dogs natural reaction is not coming out so it really doesnt know what to do. i understand that the big time coon hunters back east train there pups on baying up a caged coon and teaching it to tree on a cage, but this is not what you want to do in my opinion. this will only teach your cat dog to false tree. get some cats and turn them loose for your pup, see what happens. its always nice to have an older pup or made dog to help start, but considering the only other dogs you have are false tree dogs, dont let them have anything to do with your pup. so start turning cats loose. at first let the pup see them run, but gradually let the cat get further and further into the woods. it sounds like your putting a lot of time and work in, and if thats the case then you will be just fine. whats the breed of pup you just got?
