well its last day of training in vt !
didnt tree today -hunted with ol john proud -
--started in a cornfield - they made a few circles rite by us in the corn - ran over a mountain and off the beeper in a few minutes -- was able to drive around and road went rite thru an older clearcut where dogs were making circles --round n round- -- saw bear cross rd ,they were a minute behind - kept making circles close -crossed again and they were gaining - several times they came by us close enuff so u could hear brush break and feet pounding than we heard them catch and start walking bear--
sounded treed but still moving lol walked it rite out to the side of road and stopped in a tiny clump of thick head high spruces-- bear was bayed-- 10 feet from road- had a dog on each side with me in the road so sorta had it surrounded - bear would occasionaly charge dogs- then back into that thick clump that was just a little thicker than the rest -bear was making lots of noise -- pretty exciting stuff -- heard a dog cry a few times -- decided that this wasnt goona get any better - was a long way to any trees big enough for a bear to tree in
----- so------- just declared victory and called dogs off -

they was only ten feet away - was pretty cool hunt - except the time we drove around we heard every sound dogs made and a few the bear made- id like to tell ya it was a 400lb bear --

- but it think this vicous monster bear was lot closer to 100 lbs

treed this one today --- after a little training session - i think they were messing with a coon first drop--caught them cold trailing up a brook -
reminded me of another famous houndsman quote--
one minute your in the poop the next minute , your in the soup -
poop rhymes better than the way i usually heard it --lol
dogs were , sassy rita ranger on tree -

He looks pretty comfy up there. Good job Pete. Sure wish we had some kind of hound season here for bear. Guess I'll have to keep running summer coyotes. Sorry but I had best not post any pictures of them.
