Well I don't say much on here, but I can say I agree with both arguments. I live in ca, and have more bear to run then anything. Been hunting since 1972. Not saying that I have all the answers because I don't. I believe that a dog that is started o n cats , and becomes great cat dog, if he has any grit can be a top hound in any department. That is the reason I don't like to start my dogs on bear or really coon for that matter. As everyone knows that hunt biggame ,a cat leaves very minut amount of scent compared to a bear. The difference is like running a ghost or running a garbage truck. So I think you can have boath, but if you have been running bear all year, and start to run cats, I don't feel your dogs will be as sharp as they would be if they were only running cats. I feel when a dog is used to bear, and he likes them , it takes a few weeks to get them aclimated back to cats. My problem is being able to strick enough cats in my country. So i must get a straight cat dog to start the track, then iI know what I'am running. If I'am hunting bear I will us the dog that is goog on all game, but If I'am after cats , I feel I need to hunt the broke cat dog to atleast start the track off the rig then turn the other good dog in. The only thing about trailing a bad cat track with the all around dog is if you cross a good bear track he may break track, and run the bear. Jusy my 2 cents. Thanks Dean Webster

I agree with you I think if you have a Great Bobcat dog you have one hell of a Lion dog on dirt, snow, Frozen snow, Patches.
For some reason I think the Bobcat hunting is a little different back east, maybe someone that has hunted back east out out west could give their input.

I said they cut their tracks from the road. The big toms over there hear a truck and turn around. I know because I have to hunt on top of truck tracks made at 2:00 a.m.

He does whatever it takes, It's Van Johnson you don't become legendary in his line of work sitting on your pockets. I would bet if there was any animal Van wanted caught it better find a good hiding place. Not opinion fact!
