i have heard both sides to the story. and am not hear to coment on it, either way everyone feels strongly in there beliefs, but i think before anyone takes what dennis said about demoss to heart, they should read what was put in between those spaces that catch left out, dennis said just about as much good about demoss in the tread... back to the original poster, aside from this on going argument about this line of dogs, both guys are hunting them, regardless of there views on the breeder himself....
they may be tweaking it and making it there own, but sounds like a good place to start.

I really don't have time for this simply because your not worth the effort Worthlesston. That and my grandkids are here from NC and their far more enjoyable. But since there's a couple of very good things that others may wish to learn from this type of attack on another, so be it.
Far to many times to count Worthlesston has tried to promote himself and his dogs by belittling and attacking others. Just look at any of his posts in his profile. There always filled with confrontation. Thankfully the people, like him, that like to do this type of junk are easy to recognize and counter with their own words. Unfortunately, their also the type of people that NEVER take responsibility for their own actions. Questions have been ask of him why he thinks the dogs of the Line has faults and what they are. But yet he seems to only wish to attack me and others.
Now, instead of answering your very good questions, he wishes to take apart a story I have wrote several times of my years of hunting, training and being around the breeding of dogs of another legend, Dee DeMoss. Have no doubt, those years were filled with enjoyment and a chance to learn knowledge I'll cherish forever. In my opinion, Dee was the greatest hunter of dogs to ever hold a leash and a man of impeccable knowledge. Obviously Worthlesston has spent some considerable time cutting and inserting excerpts from it to once again attempt to belittle me. But unfortunately in doing so he also makes Dee look like something he definitely was not. I have no doubt that he'll ever read and understand that all people, even legends like Dee, are occasionally confronted with life and brought down has only life can bring you down. But a MAN is one that looks those occasions in the eye and takes responsibility for his own actions and climbs back up. That Dee definitely was and did.
I will not speak for Steve Mohr, but I assure you we are both at the age where we can see our years of being able to follow the call of the dogs quickly coming to a close. We have both lived very successful and fruitful lives, both with the dogs, our families and our careers. We can easily continue in these remaining years without ever seeing another dog run or breeding another dog to run in a very stable and comfortable way of life. We'll be the first to tell you that the Ursus dogs ARE NOT for everyone. Their simply Plotts. Some love them for what they were created and bred to be. Some dislike them for what they were created and bred not to be. We will undoubted continue with what we have enjoyed doing our whole lives to the end though, whenever God chooses that to be, only because of our love for the sport and the dogs. Now, if you think people like us are the type of people that will try to screw you over as Worthlesston suggests, don't even think of contacting us. Other wise, there are several that Steve allows to produce dogs to carry the Ursus name and hundreds of others that enjoys them simple for what they are. The call of the Ursus dogs travels far and wide when their only bred for the performance of what a Plott should be, not because of some dang Internet site as Worthlesston suggests. But doesn't it strike everyone that after 5 pages, Worthlesston is the only one that seems to have had a bad experience that he won't explain.
Worthlesston, I have read your e-mails and do know the TOTAL story. That last bunch of junk you wrote is just another attempt by you to lead into doing what you always do. I have bought dogs from Breeders all over, enough to tell you all about at least 9 different Lines. Without a doubt, you received far more from Steve Mohr than you ever deserved or wanted at the time. Without a doubt, the true issue here is you have never taken responsibility for what you yourself do or have done. When life and issues don't work or turn out the way you want them to, you've never been like Dee, you've always tried to blame others for YOUR failures and set backs. But when the good things come to you, you only try to further them for your own agenda instead of just enjoying them. Why don't you learn to take responsibility for what you do and create, both good and bad, instead of try to justify them by attacking and belittling others. You'll find life and hunting dogs much more enjoyable that way.

I have answered the questions that has been asked, not like you want, but in private by phone. If you want to hear call me. If not, that is even better. You take care of yourself and enjoy those grandkids.

Hmmm, seems a pretty inaccurate picture is being painted about marshall. I met the man through an invitation to come hunt that i followed up on. Not sure if its a secret or not as to where his dogs originated from since he hasn't said here, but the dogs he is hunting are consistent in confirmation, very consistent. Thats the doing of him, not their original origin over 10 or more years ago. He's improved on the "brand name" version of that line IMO. He's not a mass producer so it's pretty tough to get your hands on one of em from him, but if i was dead set on owning dogs that came from the strain of origin, I would want one of his. I am impressed with the dogs he hunts all the way around, I am not impressed all the way around with their strain of origin. He is not the only person that I have spoken to first hand that has had a bad feeling after a dog deal n the Ursus dept. Far as his character goes, if i was wiped out of dogs tomorrow and needed some fill ins to use to get me through the season, Marshall would be my first phone call and I'm confident he would get me taken care of. He is an honest respectable guy, til you've shared a tree and a campfire with the man Steve White, I suggest you stop making yourself look like the idiot that you portray so well.
Dennis, that sounds like a pretty incredible dog, 14 hour 18 mile bobcat race? wow, was it all in a 300 yard circle too? I would haul that dog straight to the federal reserve, a dog like that must shit gold! The one cross that I'm really looking forward to hearing about from you that you haven't let the cat out of the bag yet on is the one that just wont take and you can't figure out why..... I'll clue you in on why it won't work, no matter how many straws of semen you have shipped down from CN and shove up your butt, you are never gonna be able to have Steve Mohrs baby, but I'm sure you'll keep trying. Later

Mr. Backwoods1, when I wrote this your response seemed defensive and rightfully so. For that I apologize, but when you compare agenda, content, phrasing, punctuation, and all that, the way a person writes is very close to being as good has a signature. If you ignore the name, I have little doubt all will see why I wrote this.
I find it unfortunate that those that started this topic to find out about the Ursus Line of Plotts cannot continue with just that simply because of one that wishes to take it over by insulting others for his and his own dogs promotion. But obviously, I'm not surprised by it at all either.

Dennis you just don't when to stop. Where have I said anything in the past pages about dogs I hunt? When would like to hunt those fine Ursus dogs you have against what I have in the box? Your dogs are out classed, and you know that. I culled a bunch of those ursus dogs and the two dogs I got from you. I know what you have and it is not much. You of all people should be concerned with your own bad dog dealings!

Catch,
I asked Steve about some of the Ursus dogs you owned. He said that you had some good dogs... in particular, he mentioned Turbo, Havoc, Thunder, Storm, and said that you made some crosses on those dogs. If you are gonna put emphasis on the culls, I think it would also be fair to talk about the good ones..
He also told me that the Ursus dogs (that are in the hands of cat hunters) have done well on cats for the most part.. Abe Dougan, according to Steve, has caught close to 200 lions with the Ursus dogs he has owned. Steve said that not all of his dogs make cat dogs, and explained that a big reason for that is because he breeds his dogs for bear, not cats.
The same could be said about why the confirmation varies in the Ursus dogs. Steve has bred his dogs based on performance #1, with lesser emphasis on confirmation.
Like you told me in a PM, Steve Mohr has accomplished great things, and no one can take those away from him.
I also PM'ed you this message by accident. Sorry about that.

Catch wrote:I have had a bunch of them and the success rate is about 50%. The Ursus dogs are not proven on Lion or Bobcat. You could probably count on one hand how many lions Steve has caught with his dogs. Some have good noses and some don't. Some are slow, some are fast. Most seem to have a good amount of grit. Some are blocky, some are racy. The Ursus dogs in my opinion are all over the map in consistency. Just to many different lines involded in the Ursus dogs. From what I hear, you want the Ursus/Gantte dogs Steve is breeding. The Gantte dogs are bringing size and toughness to the table.
Make sure you understand the return plocy. The last I heard you must return the dog for a refund. I wonder where those dogs go? Second, make sure your pup is not a return pup. If you get a good one you will have somthing! For those that have dogs that came from Steve, I sure would like to hunt with them.
Good luck, if you want more info PM me.
I wrote this on page one and nothing in this post is inaccurate. This is the problem wvplott, to many hands from others, and not enough hands on. I don't need to be told what dogs can do, I will watch it do it, and if it can not, it is gone. With due respect wvplott, I'm done with this conversation. The only thing that is going to happen is some are going to get thier feelings hurt.

Since we are to the point of making closing arguements, I guess I will take my parting shots. I can't dispute your comments on the Ursus confirmation. When the primary objective is breeding for performance, phenotypes will vary..
I do think your analysis of what makes a dog is a little one dimensional though. If confirmation equaled performance (as you have suggested), bench show champions would catch the most game. I'll take a dog with heart and desire (with average confirmation) any day over a good looking, "Over-achiever". Now I'm not saying that good looking dogs can't perform, but the always/never statements don't hold water.
And of course we didn't even get into the topic of the body types that perform better in various terrains. Another topic for another time I guess.
The bottom line is, Steve's dogs are very consistent in putting the meat in the tree, and that is undisputable. From my experience, the majority of the Ursus dogs I have hunted with will hang in there and get the job done when the going gets tough, and will close the deal when the other dogs fail from a lack of courage.
As for the "Not enough hands on" statement, the folks who have spoken up on Steve's behalf own Ursus dogs, hunt Ursus dogs, catch game with Ursus dogs, and have hunted with Steve's pack in BC. They know what they are talking about. When I say that, I'm not slighting your ability to judge performance, because you may be very capable in that regard.
No hard feelings. Have a good one.
