Now Catch, you have me terribly confused!!! That's not very hard because I'm not very smart. But if I was to come to your house and look at your dogs and we didn't hunt them, I mean, turn them loose on a track or rig, you know, some form of hunting. And then said I had hunted with them and I had no interest in them or their offspring. I think I would sound uhh, uhh, uhh, I'm searching for the right word here, it will take me a minute or two because (I am stupid!)

In any case, in my humble opinion, for me to do so, would be nothing short of ignorant, to do that to someone or you especially if I had been invited to your house and broke bread with you.

Catch, if life has taught me one thing, it is to be careful what you say and do, because things always have a way of (catching) up to you.

As for the blue dog, is it a female? It was a 10 month old pup when I took it to Bill.

As for Darrius Martin, he has never gotten a dog from me. But I have gotten a female pup, I named her Misery. She was about 13 months old when Bill K got her. I also got a pup from Greg Whitley in Michigan (Curley) it has some or all of Darrius blood. Bill has her too, she was a natural and took off cold trailing very early. Darrius did breed a female to Cabo, out of Bill.

As for Greg H, the Bott brothers, and Dave Hill, you should go meet them. You will never hear an ugly word out of them.

Darrius came and hunted with me two falls ago. It was fairly late in the season. We found a bear track, an old bear track. Cabo was two, Socki was 1 1/2. Call him and let him tell you the story, I would like to send you a video Catch, not so you can see my dogs, but so you can hear me thank everyone I got these Plotts from.

Catch, you are my brother because you are a houndsmen. We are going to become great friends, or we are going to kill each other lol. You are welcome as a friend, we might even learn something from each other, you never know.

Would you mind explaining some of your training methods. I see that you seem to favor young dogs. I see the benifits but, it seems to go against the grain (so to speak). I have heard and read many houndsmen that will not let their pups see game until it is one year old.
Also, and I'm sure this has been talked about before but what is your thoughts on buying dogs (pups) from other regions of the country? Do you believe climit ie. humidity, average temp and so on affect a pup as much as an older dog?

Greg the comment I made was in response to Larry when he asked if I had hunted with the dog, and then suggested I should get one of his offspring.

However you want to take it is fine by me. I was simply stating that I was not interested in him or his offspring. I didn't say he was a pile of crap, a worthless dog, or a mutt. I said I was not interested.

I have met Greg, Dave, Brian and Brett. I consider Greg, Brett and Brian friends. I have only met Dave one time and I doubt he would remeber me. The other three are good men and we have had some good laughs.

I would like to watch your video. Keep one hid under you pillow and I will grab it in Aug.

You have met two of us now, I agree with three rivers catahoulas on this one. Every average hog dog that I have ever seen tried on bear has made a GOOD bear dog, but I have seen some good bear dogs that didn't have what it took to make a hog dog.

Hey Bill what do you like better open mouth dogs or silent dogs. I have ran both and I'll tell ya what I'm startin to like these open dogs alot. When I first got into hog huntin all the guys around me said they would shoot an open dog, and that they didn't catch as many hogs with'em. But I have caught just as many if not more with open dogs then silent, and now I know witch way there going and I can cut the hog off most the time. That came in handy a few months ago, because I would bet a pay check them fella up were I was were crossin Quarter horse with them hogs LOL.

I prefer silent, but I have both because there are certain situations where an open dog catches more hogs just as there are situations where a silent dog will catch more hogs. I do believe that, all else being equal, a silent dog will catch more game, but, all else is never equal. I know quite a few people who have gone from silent to open dogs and never regretted it, I also know a few who have gone from open to silent and are very happy with the change. I know others who have changed, and then changed back. Personally, I prefer to be able to match the dog to the situation and use whichever I think will work best that day in that situation.

The most effective combo might be a slow trailing open dog used with very fast silent dogs. This gives you the advantage of being able to hear which way the race is going, at the same time, the hog can hear the slow open dog getting further and further behind, so he slows down and the first clue he has that the open dog is not alone is when one of the fast silent dogs gives his left nut a good hard jerk, and by that time, he is a caught hog. Once the silent dogs shut him down, the open dog will get to the bay pretty soon, and since, at least in my case, the open dogs tend to have better voices, it makes it easier to find the bay. Its kind of like having the best of both worlds sometimes.

Man you hit it right on the head, the silent dogs I'm runnin right now are Plott/ AB crosses and Plott/Cat/AB crosses. The only thing I'm missin in that cross is BMC LOL, there just young dogs but doing well, I guess its more me then anything still havent spit that sourness out of my mouth yet, last year was bad for me, and I still haven't shook it off yet. But I've been tryin, gettin dogs out and runnin bear ,coon. I have two young plotts that are comein up one I dont know about yet I think he's gonna be a better tree dog then any thing, but I have a little buckskin male that loves the hogs, tree's hard too.
