Boy Tim, its a good thing you are a better judge of dogs than you are of some people or you would never catch anything!

the coyote is as long winded and a measure of a good dog mentally and phisically dan.even though their strong scent is a tremendous help for a scenthound.you dont see bobcats and bears running for miles strait down the highway .in many ways they are the king for measuring a dog in my opinion.coyote doesnt have the option to climb even though some have been known to.coyotes are deffinately under rated.so are the dogs that pursue them.

i would certainly breed to a pure running dog that could cold trail and catch and locate and stay treed by itself consistently here in maine for our style of hunting. be a fool not too.

I'm sure glad everyone don't make the switch to the running dog crosses, we need some dogs out there to help educate and spoil some cats so it gives the running dog crosses a chance to get alittle exercise and not make it like shooting fish in a barrel!

Bring them on out and show me how easy it will be to just pick heads up and run some of the old tracks like they are jumped, that these sorry potlickers of mine struggle with. I will let the world know how good they preformed . Running & running crosses are not something I have not seem. In my experience all struggled at times with some tracks. Realize just should ignore as this is a planned thread. Al

Rick, thanks for that post. Yes, have seen a couple females that were trigg & treeing walker crosses & they could run the hair off a critter, after the treeing walkers had worked the track up to there nose. Only other problem was they did not locate nor tree, when I hunted with them, they also failed to catch some of the cat I OBSERVED THEM ATTEMPT,but can/t hold that against, there tree bred helpers also failed. Last I knew they were going to be worked on bear, hopeful to bring out the tree. Later years, visited with hunter whom had worked them for the owner on bear. He told me sure loved the track drive in those, but never did tree. Now know some do tree, but have been told a bunch never did. Have known a few others who order trigg to cross into the tree bred dogs, but, before long, noticed those were no longer there choice of hound. It takes different hounds to please different hunters, so hunt what you like. I hold no ill feelings toward any bred or hunter who hunts them. There is an old flag tail sleeping in my kennels today, I do not own him, but if he should need a place to rest, when he is too old to hunt, promise you, long as I am able he will be taken good care of, his heart & desire are not matched, by a bunch, half his age. Willie I am glad you started this post, gave me some entertainmeant, in between doing my share of house work, & cleaning kennels. You guys all have a good day & when training season opens, show me how great your dogs are. Promise, will dump these potlickers of mine, in trash filled woods and make no excuses for them. Al

Al, this is a serious question and not meant to sound like im poking fun. Out of curiosity what running x dogs have you run down there and how many years ago? The reason i ask is because in my opinion with my own experience with the ones i own and hunt they have come a long ways in the last 10 years. Mostly in the trailing,locate/tree end of things.
