Joe:
Your slow is an exceptional year for me lol. I think i’m gonna try hauling a horse with my Ford Ranger to see if it’s as far fetched as it sounds. If I can do it reasonably then I’ll start hunting on horse back more.

Law:
I sure wish that’s how it works lol

Well I ran out yesterday and put out a couple cameras. Then I realized that my rear axle was leaking. But I found a track so I’ll be going back every once in a while to try to catch him.

This weather is depressing as hell! My truck has needed a ebcm for about 2 weeks and its finally here so Thursday should be back to normal. I wish I thought putting cameras out would help but I'm not sure I'd have any success.

I’m just hoping to get pics of cats moving. It’s been cold but no weather here. So the ground stays frozen with even cattle leaving little to no tracks in the canyon with any kind of moisture.

I drove through an area I started hunting about 5 years ago. The flash floods really changed the canyon. The whole creek bed dropped by about 8 feet and the road washed out bad. So bad the county moved the road to the bottom of the creek in several places, to avoid the draws that flooded so bad this year.

Same here very cold in the morning then heating up above average temps in the afternoon, supposedly a storm rolling in but days and chances of snow keep changing. Trucks in the shop today, can't wait to see what this costs, they said programming the new brake controller takes all day :( but it is what it is.

Dang that’s a bummer!
I had my truck in the garage for the last 2 days because I had to tear the rear end apart. The axle seal was leaking so I replaced both axle seals, bearings and the brakes. Cost me about $100 in all. Not including the fuel for the 3 trips to town for parts

Well just picked up the hoopty wasn't nearly the beating that I anticipated but wasn't only a 100 bucks either. I asked if I could get a punch card like at the coffee shop they said I'd cause them to file bankruptcy  but they are good to me and we are back at it tomorrow!! Oh wait still shit conditions but I'm to dumb to stay home :D

OnX Hunt.
I’ve recently moved to Oklahoma so I upgraded to the elite two state, I didn’t use it much in California because I was either in the national forest or in the desert foothills, so it wasn’t very necessary.

Now I’m in a new state and there are a lot of property lines and I intend to respect them. So I upgraded my OnX Hunt account on my phone, but I’m almost always in an area with no service. I’m trying to get used to the offline mapping. But my question is, does anyone use the chip in their Garmin? I know they don’t upgrade the chip anymore, but I’m pretty sure they still work.

Throw me a bone, help a brother out, what say you?

The chips work in the 100’s but the 200’s and 300’s are only garmin maps and they’re subscription based.

I use the garmin hunt chip in my 300i no subscription needed and gives me land owners just as well as my onx. I hadn’t heard you can’t update your land ownership on the onx chips though.

I still use the Alpha 100, so I’m guessing the chip will work since the 200 hadn’t been in circulation then (I think). I didn’t know they had a 300 series out already, thanks for the responses Fritz and beebout-it.

It’ll just make my outdoor adventures a lot easier since I mostly check my garmin when I’m in the woods. Having the property lines and my dogs location and direction of travel on the same screen is more convenient.

I forgot to ask, are the garmin maps basically the same as the OnX maps?

Well I had a hell of a bobcat race today. I put out on 2 different toms, found 5 different tracks in total. They jumped both, one in about 1/4 mile and another in about a mile. The first one just stayed out walking in front of the dogs for a mile until I got out in front and turned it around. Then it made a bunch of zig zags to get around the dogs and hid. I walked the dogs back and helped them figure it out. We got it jumped then one of my young dogs ran it a full mile back up its track. She lost it in a big rock outcrop up on the ridge.
Then on the other one, the dogs jumped him but couldn’t keep up in the thick trees. I helped them line it out and then it went over a saddle to a bunch of scattered rock piles. Eventually he made enough loops they lost him. But these were the first bobcats they’ve actually ran this winter. Even though they lost them, I’m proud of them. They did much better than last year and actually got them on their feet!
