What is your opinion about the best plott-breed/lines for bearhunting, and why?

I have just hunted with Ursus-plotts, and they have done well.

there is a guy in these parts that really puts them up with his brandonberger???line of plotts. they seem be a little larger line of plotts at least all that i have seen.

I like Cascade dogs. That's what my dad raised me up on and they seam to get it done. I have seen lots of plotts from different lines that were good dogs. Just liked the way the cascade dogs ran.

I like dogs that trace back to the Bluff Creek line, and Leroy Haugs' old Swampland dogs; ie: Swampland Little Joe and Kelly's Red Buck.

What is the different between the lines then? I don´t know so much about them so I would like to know more!

Is some more or less coldnosed? Does some hunts faster then others? Does some lines "start to hunt" earlier then others?

Each line has something that it is known for, good or bad. Look into, Ursus, Bluff Creek, Pocahontas, Crockett, Cascade, Salmon River, Nabek, Dollins, these are a few that are around and influence what is around today. It goes way farther back with Weems and others, but it is literally a book and way too many to list.

i like most dogs that come from bear path gunner, the ones that bred from him and hunted hard/culled right, seem to make damn good dogs with lots of drive.

There are a lot of good lines. Speed and grit I like Swampland, Weems/Burnside and Shamrock. Real good nose I like Bluff Creek. Hard treeing Nabek. I have had real good luck with all of these lines. I have seen good dogs in other lines, Swampland, Weems. and Bluff Creek are what I have now.

can you post the peds on your weems dogs?

I have seen a lot of grit out of Gannte and Crocket dogs. I have seen some good noses and track driving out of the Cascade line. Had a couple of Weems dogs that were real tree dogs. But like I said there are a lot I have not hunted with enough to judge.

blackwater..whitehollow...pocahontus...whitedeer...dollins...all are good lines. I listed them in order of my success.

There is a guy in Idaho named Justus and he raises the red plotts. I just got one and she is awesome!

is that dog red or red brindle?

There is good and bad in all the lines mentioned above. It all depends on what you like in a dog! I prefer the crockett, brandenburg, fergouson decendants! I would suggest to hunt what works best for you.
