After reading some of the post ,I noticed a problem in people burning the astros up ,by using high wattage 2 meter radios and a truck mounted antenna for the astro . Does anyone thank about using a lower frequency on the radio ? we use channel 145.400 on our 2 meters (65 watts) , with a external antenna mounted on the truck for the astro . we have not had any problems with our astros yet, are we just lucky or have we not gave it enough time yet?

Any channels between 144.000 to 148.000 are ham radio channels if you use any of these channels you will hit a repeater sooner or later. An the hams will get pissed and chase ya down and threatin to call the fcc on ya. Trust me i no

. At least some of the other channels above 148.000 are buisness band channels and or marine channels.

I guess it doesnt answer the question cause nobody dares to do it. Unless your a ham operator. I guess your the lucky one that gets to try it. Thanks for letting us no you havent burned your astro up using these channels.

I'M ready to buy an Astro, I don't use vhf or uhf radios, but do have some friends who come out from WI every year to lion hunt with us, who do use radios.
Is their a frequency we can use, that won't mess with the Astro? If so what are they?
Thanks,
Al

I have a license from the FCC, business band, that is in the high 159s and we haven't burned any Astros out yet. Been using them since fall of 2008.
WE run our radios on full power.

We have been running on frequencies as high as the mid 160's and have burned em out.
Had em burn out using no two way radios at all too so who knows.
