Wanting to go Mtn. Lion hunting

I am wanting to get some information about going lion hunting sometime next year. I live in VA and bear hunt with my dogs out here. I read the stories on here of the lion hunts you all have and its something I would like to see with the dogs working and how the whole chase goes. I am 20 now and have been hunting with hounds since I was 4 and started bear hunting at 7. Mainly what I am wanting to see is what all is needed as in license and all for what states. I would like to just tag along and the chance comes to kill one I would take it. If you all could give me some information on what process I might have to go through and what state it would be in. Thanks for reading.

Thanks
Matt

what part of VA you live in? I live in central VA and bear hunt near Covington, I've been dying to get out west and lion hunt too.

I live in a little place called New Castle. Its a little south of Covington in Craig County. I work in Covington though. I bear hunt up in Craig as well and some over in WV.

Hey,
I live in Montana, and here the regs changed for the better this year, up until last year, a lion hunter had to purchase the tag before Aug 31, now the rule is this, there is no deadline to purchase the tag, however, a hunter who purchases the tag after 31 Aug, may not hunt lions until 5 days after the license is issued. There is online licensing for Montana, <fwp.mt.gov> and $330 for the tag will get you started, in addition, there is a trophy fee of $50 if you do kill a lion.

As far as tagging along, you may need to pony up some gas money to sweeten the deal somewhat. I am not a successful lion hunter, so I would only be a waste of time and money for ya'

Doesn't sound like a change for the better, sounds like an opportunity for a guy to stuff one in the freezer for 5 days after he buys a tag. Sounds like a greedy FWP wanting every last cent they can get.

I'd be careful. If someone from the FWP wants to push it, gas money is considered payment. At that point, your outfitting without a liscense. I've seen it happen, and it's not a little fine either.
