Yes Don and I went out this morning and cut a nice lion track , put the dogs on it and they blew out of there like they were looking at it. A friend of ours Josh was out looking also and cut the same track about two miles farther down the road and put out dogs on it. He and his dogs were ahead of us and ours. We all got to the tree and had a nice tom. Josh wanted to harvest it for himself so we told him it was his call since he was ahead of us. He took the lion and Don and I gathered our dogs and headed back to the truck. About half way back Don began to have some heart problems.I asked him if he was alright and he gave his standard answer I'M ALRIGHT. It was obvious he wasn"t.We made it another quarter mile to the truck. Got dogs loaded and headed out. We were way out and about an hour from the nearest town, Capitan,. Don is double tuff but was really struggling with the pain. No cell service till we got within 5 miles of town.We met the ambulance, got him to hospital and stablelized. Flew him to Albuquerque, where they put in two more stints.I talked to him on the phone 15 minutes ago. He probably ain"t out of the woods yet , but it at least looks some better for him.
Dons family and friends thank you for your continued prayers.

Give him our best and tell him our prayers are with him. Thanks God you made it to the hospital in time. On a lighter note, I would bet if he knows what he knows now he still would have done it.

Thoughts and Prayers are with you guys.. I know personally how long a drive like that is with a Tuff Guy Having an attack. Not a fun situation.

Hopefully he'll learn to slow down and Watch himself. It took Two times before my hard headed ol man learned to slow down in the woods..

Well,
As we all know, timing is everything in a situation like that. Glad it ended as good as it did. On any given day, that cold be anyone of us. Neither us, or our dogs have any kind of guarantee on how long we will be around. I guess that is why we should make the most out of each and every trip we can. Looking back, it is probably a blessing you guys didn't shoot the cat, and delay getting to the truack any longer than you did.

Best of luck Don, and continued improvement.. Look forward to mant more hunts with the dogs.

P.S. Note to self.. don't try and keep up with Mr. Tom White on a lion hunt. The guy will walk you into cardiac arrest..

P.S.S. Tom, do you still see Tina Apprill running around the hills on the Lincoln anymore? I am not even sure she still has dogs..

Don and I have been hunting bear and lions togather for about 3 years now. Don is an ex cowboy preacher and has outfitted with dogs on lion in Texas and Arz. This is his 3rd heart attack and has been gut shot with a deer rifle several years ago, been worked over by several Bulls, a few horse and mule wrecks , and is only 56 yrs old. Doc says he needs to consider a lifestyle change. I talked to Don today. He is setting up drinking a sprite. Says he"s comming home tomorrow. I don"t think he"s checked with the doc on that :?

I stopped in and seen Don yesterday for just a few minutes. He is doing well and spirits are high a little tiered but he looks dang good for all that he has been threw. He is a good man and i have allot of respect for him and Tommy both are dang good men. Don has made it home and is told to rest up for 4 weeks before he does anything but it wont be long and he will be back out before long, lets just keep praying for him and his family.
