the best breed or the best dogs and are you talking any country or west or east of I5. Where i live there is alot of under brush so there is alot more scent .if your east of I5 there is less so my dogs probably wouldnt do as well as someone who hunts there on a regular basess.

i only hunt with the select few, so i dont have the wide spectrum to look at so my .02 doesnt really amount to anything. i was just wondering, and this forum is somewhere to pass the time between hunting, the kids, and work.

east of I5 i would say terry clearwater had the best cat dogs but he sold out last year i know he caught 8 cats in one weekend. that is impressive.west of I5 10 years ago i would say me and my dad . we had 4 cat dogs one was the best cat dog i,ve ever seen the other three could catch there own cat no problem. like a idot i sold the three and figuered i would train some more . on a hot august day after a hard run when i got home i opened the dog box and all of my dogs were dead.that was the worst day of my life.it makes me sick just thinking about it.i fill like the biggest piece of sht in the world.what ever you do dont biuld a dog box that a dog cant stick its head out.i know lots of guys that have good cat dogs over here albert baldwin useually has a good pack don petterson has good dogs.but i cant say who has the best .i dont right now but ask me in three month. :) .when i get home from iowa im huntin for two month strait.hopefully.im pritty excited for young dogs they are doing good my last eight cat i ran i treed 6 .but that was last year i have been away from home 234 days out of the last 262. ive worked in texas oklahoma calif alaska and iowa i dont know what i miss more my kids wife or cat hunting.maybe its a part of my wife i miss the most. :D :D

happy,
you act like you know me, why do you want to know who the select few are? i hunt with two guys period. the reason i only hunt with those two guys are because of drama that i dont need. i like to go hunting and have fun. if you are who i think you are, you know what im talking about and if i am wrong about who you are i appoligize. as for how i got started, its like most here. you get a pup or a dog and hunt it. either with someone who has good dogs, or by yourself. you sound like you know whats going on in the dog world so im not telling you anything you dont already know. as for how much game i catch, that dont matter to ME!
i hunt mainly with one guy who has an awesome pack. like i said i havent hunted with alot of people so i couldnt realy say, but its the best pack i have seen with my own two eyes. i cant even remember getting out run when i have hunted with him. thats not trying to gloat, thats just the fact. i like to hunt to have fun not to rack up numbers. if i catch a cat thats cool. shit everyone on here would want to catch game everytime they turned loose im sure. it just dont happen like that all the time.

ps: happy. i thought you were moving back east?

J.C. Freeman, Zip Fendricks, Jerry Hatton, U.R.E., Curt Preston, Paul or Brian from Tillamook, Jim Howell, Chris from Roseburg area, Ted Wilson and others I can't remember right this minute are all straight bobcat hunters that at one time or another have or have had top cat dogs or packs of them. I haven't hunted a lot with any of them, some of them not at all, but I do know the score.

yah, i didnt wanna mention names but since you did already. i hunt with chris and he is one of the most knowlegable houndsmen i have ever met and catches alot of cats. his sadie dog is fenominal. i have two pups out of his dogs and i am proud to own playboy, which is also out of his dogs. the other dog of his which i would like to mention is gambler. gambler is one of those dogs that you take your eye off of for a second and he has the cat treed. he is the very fastest dog i have ever been around and very accurate. i hunt around another guy whos name is bill. those are the two guys that i hunt with and thats it. i wouldnt mind hunting with a few more, or getting to know a few more a little better. i have had the pleasure of meeting a few of the others mentioned but never had the oportunity to hunt with them other than jc freeman on elk with my dad. i was on one hunt with zip, but didnt get to talk to him much. i hear he is a real knowlegeable houndsman. like i said, i havent realy hunted with alot of guys, so my .02 doesnt realy matter but from what i have seen my buddies dogs are the best i have seen.

I was wondering how you start your cat dogs and do you do any coon hunting. I was talking with some other guys on cat hunting and they said there is a guy from around roseburg Oregon that guides bobcat hunts and he has some really nice dogs, dont know if it is true just something I heard. Does any of your hunting buddies have any real good cat dogs for sale I have been saving for a real good one. Here where I live it is high desert and nothing but patches of sage so they would need to be able to track on dry ground and snow.

Thanks for reminding me, Billy Smith is a good hunter. Caught some game with him years ago with Zoe, Rice and Munch when I lived in Trail. Sad that Zoe's Dead. Picket is the guide, good dogs from what I here. Chis is a hard hunter, hunted a little with him when he was getting started and following 'ol Marshall Jennings around chasing 20 dogs around the woods. I think those dogs go back to Curt's dogs which come out of Wa. Maybe from Stretch a brother to him.
