This system has a couple of features which are very nice including longer battery life (7 days) and also both GPS and Telemetry tracking features both in one system. However, the biggest problem with it is that you have to carry a laptop to view the GPS realtime. That alone is disapointing. The best feature Iv'e found with the Astro is that you can watch your dogs realtime during the hunt. It is a real eye opener to see what every dog is doing during the hunt. You learn things about each dog you never knew before. Still, I'm glad to see some competition for the Astro. Some good market competition will only result in better units for us in the future. If the Garman had better range, battery life and also a telemetry system, they would have nailed it from the start. Hopefully, someone will get it all together in one unit.

Just wondering cause I picked up a Garmin for my son and wondered if I made a mistake. We did get the collars switched over to a 30 second signal rather than the 5 or 10 second which is suppose to extend the collar battery to around 36 hours. I just wasn't too interested in havinf to run two collars on a dog and wondered if this other unit and the week charge might be better. I guess I should have worked with my brother-in-law a couple years back and put something together that works rather than a toy. He runs a Electronical Engineering group and puts stuff like that together for companies.....makes systems small and makes them do the things people need them to do. When he started talking about markets and sales I kinda lost interest in the deal..........

hey guys, im running a dog for robert bagely of marshall telemetery right now, and they are in the making of an awesome system, like mentioned above but better, still working on longer battery life, one collar should do it all, no lap top, gps and marshall oldschool telem in one transmitter, dont know all the details, but give them a call, great to work with. vaughn nielson

I actually called and they do have a system in the works, but couldn't give a definate date on when it would be ready. She (Chris) also said that there will be some sort of GPS display, but wasn't sure if it would be on the actual receiver or connected somehow. Maybe a connection to another GPS receiver I am thinking. It will be telemetry and GPS and sounds like the answer to all of our problems. That's all I could get, and she was answering calls left and right, poor girl.
