So I might have an opportunity to guide pig hunts on a decent ranch with a large hog population, so I'm looking into getting a guide license. My question is, will this have negative affects for my personal hunting ie: different laws or regulations to follow being a "Professional" vs. "Amateur"? Any thoughts or hints,tips,tricks,experiences, etc. much appreciated, thanks yall.

Shouldn't affect anything to much. There are a few different rules to follow, mainly filling out log books. Guide licenses are pretty simple to get in Ca. Under 200 bucks and an insurance bond that runs about 100 bucks a year. Hope your patient and good with strangers who think anything you catch will be a trophy and are so out of shape they can't get there anyway. You might get a little more attention from wardens as the ones in your area will know you are guiding but on private ground that is probably not an issue. Good luck.

WCH, You wont need permits for Private, but you will for different National Forest lands. Submit for your permits early...

The big thing about being a ca guide is that you are responsible for the hunters that you are guiding. Make sure that they obey all laws because if not you will probably get a ticket as well. National Forest land is a pain to get uses permits for. You have to get a uses permit for every section of land you are guiding in the national forest from the office of the national forest you are hunting in. You have to sit down and actually go through in interview process. It is a pain. Hunting private land is simple. You just get your guide license, bond, and insurance. It is a simple process that will just cost you money. Make sure you make up a great contract for liability, sit down with your insurance agent and make one with them. Make sure you include a fee for any one that kills or injures a dog in the hunt. Send in your guide log papers every month on time, that will get you a ticket every time if you don't. Know that the wardens have every right to come on the private land you are guiding and check things out. They will make sure there are no bait piles, live traps or anything that someone would use to illegally draw game in. Good luck and if you have any other questions feel free to P.M. me.
