I have owned a colt & a bushmaster in the past and have a chance to now buy either a DPMS or a SMITH&WESSON. It's been 8 years since my last one. So i am trying to figure out which one to buy, there both new the Smith is 1030.00 the DPMS is 700.00 what do you guys think is the way to go. The guns are the same configuration and rigged the same, is the Smith worth the extra cash

Ive shot them all. I would go with the DPMS. An AR is an AR, unless its got a bunch of different specs its not worth the extra money

We have a dpms and a bushmaster, and I like the dpms alot better. I think it shoots alot better and the feel of it is awesome. We have both chambered in .223, we use the DPMS to shoot everything from deer to elk. The one i wanted to try was a rock river, their Coyote rifle.

Stag makes S&W, so if you were going to go with the S&W just go to gunbroker and get a stag. The barrel is the big factor what is the twist if they are both 1/9 it doesn't matter but you can only shoot the lighter bullets 1/7 or 1/8 will let you shoot the beaver bullets. All the other parts lower and upper are made buy the same company only the labor is different. But if you can afford the 1300 S&W I would add 150 or so and buy the DPMS mark 12 they have some on gunbroker from time to time GPS sniper school has some as well they are a tad more expensive. The reason is it has the front rail a match trigger and the voltor stock. the most important thing it has is a 1/8 match barrel. I learned the hard way on this the regular barrels shoot 1 to 1.5 groups and the match 1/8 will shoot .5 moa this is the difference from hitting a fox at 100 or missing him. I cant tell you how many I shot at and missed and went home and shot a target to find the gun was on it just didnt shoot tight enough. so I bought the MK 12 and havent missed many from that point on. But if your not looking for a sub moa gun then buy the DPMS unless the S&W has a rail or a trigger something that sets it apart.

Now that i live in C.A. i have to leave mine and a few others at my moms in O.R. but i love the Rock River i have now, I had a nice bushmaster but the R.R. seems alot better. Just my 2 cents and its not worth much...

Its the elite comp. Great gun, Havent had a jam with about 10,000 rounds down the pipe

Can't go wrong with a DPMS. Nice rifles for the money and usually are excellent shooters!
