Golden Opportunity #2

Haha, I'm as giddy as a kid in a candy shop with a five dollar bill!!!

You may remember last year about this time, when Belle and I tripped over a bobcat on the Deschutes river here in Oregon. Long story short, I didn't let her finish the race due to oncoming darkness and private property. Someone mentioned that was a "golden opportunity" and not likely to come along again.

I ain't disputing that, but it DID come along again!! And here's how it went..sorry about no pics, but you'll understand.

Again, raining in Portland so I decide to head east to exercise the dogs. Driving over Mt Hood, it does start to clear up and my spirits lift. Looking for no/limited "company", I decide that maybe the Lower Deschutes would be good as fishermen are far between this time of year. Couple of miles after turning off Hwy26, heading towards Maupin, a cat runs across the road 40yds ahead of me!! It's 11:30 in the afternoon!! I'm clearly on public land for a 20 mile radius!!

At first I thought it was a feral cat, dark in color from my viewpoint, and questioned whether letting Belle and Ruger run would be worth it....but then ANOTHER bob runs across the road!! And I thought, "Thank you Lord!" An opportunity too good to pass on.

So, after pulling over, I get the leashed dogs on the tracks when finally Belle lets loose, fully on the scent and heading the right direction! I turn 'em loose and run back to change boots and grab the camera. Following as best as I could, we (they) trailed those cats for 45 minutes....but no tree, hence no pics :(

Sorry, maybe golden opp. #3 will produce pics:D

I know, I know, but you gotta understand. A, I'm not a professional and this is just a hobby; and B, I'm just glad it wasn't a deer this time ;)

Sounds like fun nonetheless...Keep spending time in the woods and another "golden opp" is bound to happen....I'm ready to see a cat cross in front of me!

Sounds like most of my bobcat stories. It doesn't matter how fresh the track is, those critters are hard to catch.
