Since I am computer illiterate I had to make a new post, not knowing how to add to.
Thought this would give a better view of how stout this lion was. The dog has recovered and is ready to go although he cannot bark yet. The vet says it will gradually come back. I hope so. Hap walked out on his own power after the incident and didn't even act injured but after being examined, the vet said he probably had 48-72 hours to live without the surgery.

Thats a real pig. I missed your story, did your dog run into a mean cat? And did it tree eventually?

Sorry to hear about your dog hope he gets better quick, that is sure a toad. What do you think he weighted?

I would guess he weighed in the 140 range.

HA!!!!
Dogman is being conservative and humble like always. That lion was pushin 170 easily. He spent weeks keeping track of that tom and trailed him many times over tough frozen ground in those weeks. Each dog in his pack picking up the slack when it needed to be picked up.
Persistance, a sixth sense for lions, and over 40 years of doggin is what caught that giant walkin tom!
Congrats Amigo. As hardcore as they come folks.
Hap will be goin over ridges with a track in no time my friend.

Congrats on the catch and kill, and glad to hear that hound is OK. Tom lion can make a large loop in the country I hunt and a guy might not find them again for months at a time. I remember my son and I working a tom some years back that we just couldn't get on fresh for over a year, then one day we treed him and he dry scored 14 15/16" Boone & Crockett.
I think a buddy of mine put the finger on it pretty well by saying, a man can make his cut every day for thirty days and he's lucky if a big brute comes through fresh. Like has been said before, knowledge, distance, time and money equals dead tom lion........
